I often get the question; “what is MarTech and how do it differentiates in relation to Digital Marketing?” The word MarTech is basically just a blend of Marketing and Technology. The MarTech area, as a definition, is what we call the technology – It could be hardware, software, platforms, and services etc, that are used in the marketing business today.
Digital Marketing (or Online Marketing) is... yes: Marketing on digital platforms :). You can see it, as an umbrella term for all marketing and engagement activities done through online media channels. Digital Marketing is many different activities such as: website, video, social media (SoMe), SEO/SEM, e-mail, content etc.
I would say that Digital Marketing is basically the online strategy to help you be present and noticed online, and help in the communication and through that get valid and good leads. This by, of course, using the right tool, platforms, software etc.
So MarTech (Marketing Technologies) is the choice of the right technology for the support of the marketing goals and objectives = improving marketing activities in the best way.
In Saint-Gobain Construction Nordic we are using a lot of technologies (tools, web services, platforms) and right now one of the areas we are focusing on, is implementing Marketing Automation, but I will get back on this subject in another article.
One of my job areas in the Digital Core Team in Saint-Gobain Construction Nordic, is to make sure to be aligned with tools we have in the business already, and to look into the new technologies and opportunities that could be beneficial for us. Also to look after best practices across countries in close collaboration with the country marketing teams.
Anyway, so now you know :)
