I Need To Tell You Something

My latest book, I Need To Tell You Something, was officially released today. You might be surprised to learn that it has absolutely nothing to do with analytics or big data!

This book was inspired by my financial advisor who asked me a simple question when my kids were young: "What would you want your kids to know about life if you died and weren't around to tell them as they grow up?" He initially suggested that I write a letter, but after thinking about it and putting down some thoughts I realized that a letter wouldn't do. I really needed a book! After several years of work, I finally got the book in print today.

The premise is that parents (or other influential adults) provide the book to the teens through early 20's young adults they care about. Ideally, they read it together and discuss. Each chapter lays out a specific life lesson and why it is important. Then, I provide one or more examples of where I or someone I know did a good or bad job at applying the lesson. Last, there are some questions to help readers think through how to apply the lesson to their own life. Knowing how little time kids want to devote to such things, each chapter can be read in about 5 minutes. Even with discussion and thought, each chapter is at most a 15 - 20 minute commitment.

My initial plan was to simply print some copies for my family. However, as I finished it, I decided that I'd go ahead and publish it in case others find it to be a useful starting point for tough discussions with their own children or loved ones. You can learn more about the book here. If you do decide to check it out, I hope you find it a useful tool for talking about important topics with your own loved ones.
