I Need to Get This Off My Chest Before I explode...

Today, I've got a few bits n pieces to share with you and its exciting. Covid appears to be finally easing, new opportunities arising everywhere, new relationships being formed and many are serious about investing in their future success. I have some exciting news below...

But first, a wee story...

I remember securing a year's worth of regional newspaper advertising worth ￡100,00 across 30+ counties in England using a simple technique...

I sent a letter with ad copy to the newspaper that effectively, said that in the event of a customer unable to provide artwork, miss a deadline or simply pull out and to avoid an empty space in the newsletter to publish my ad and cash my enclosed cheque (which was for a fraction of the rate card price.) Come on, I'm Scottish ;)

I got a phone call back a few days letter and an advertising executive telling me he couldnt accept my ad for the discount I was asking and offered me a paltry 10% off. I said "ah, that's a pity. "Och don't worry, rip up the cheque and send it back to me." I said.

"I'll tell you what, let me hold onto it for a few days". He said.

Now, the hardest part of any business is to get money in, but to get money in that you cant use drives people insane ;)

Guess what?

I got the Call the next day, and I got my national weekly ad campaign for a year for about ￡60 a week. ￡250 per month. That was ￡3000 for the year - Approx 97% off. (I still have that invoice with the discount somewhere ;) )

Think how you can apply that tactic ;) That's only half of it, because I started getting phone calls from other magazines and papers trying to sell me advertising space. I told them all - If you can match what I paid on a % basis, I'll do the deal ;) (Think about it !!)

More importantly, it warms the cockles of my heart when other people actually roll up their sleeves and apply some of what I share. Yup, Colin is a h@ppeneur ;) Are you...?

A Fraser Tip:

Don't forget when dealing with suppliers especially in the current climate always remember the "Scots Probe". Ready? Remember these 5 words..."Is That Your Best Price?" for you never know what you might save. How many times will you ask that today? Oh, and do let me know in the comments below how much you saved, why ask those 5 simple words.
