Going the extra mile is the habit of champions.

Today as I welcome you - the youngest members of the IMT Alumni family, I am reminded of my days at IMT. I had the privilege of being a part of the Alumni Relationship Committee while I was on campus and it was a remarkable journey. Our senior batches had left us with a rich legacy by establishing the structure of Batch Champions and IMT Alumni Association which provided the consistency and continuity to the approach.?

One of our well acclaimed alumni from one of the pioneer batches decoded the “IMT” as “I M Transformed”. Indeed, IMT is a life changing experience, not just the learning and exposure but the sheer opportunity of trying as many things as possible, the opportunity of reaching out to a great alumni base, the opportunity of making lifetime friends, and the opportunity of discovering yourself !!

You are already amongst the top 5 % of MBA aspirants in the country to join this prestigious institution. The next two years will be the time when the ambitious amongst you will try, fail, and plan again - your individual journey to reach the top 1 % of the industry. As students, it is okay to try and fail, but do not fail to try. However, when you join the industry, you are expected to deliver results. So join clubs and committees, go in for case study competitions, and have lots of fun. The competition to reach the top 1% of the industry is within you.

You will soon graduate as an “IMTian For Life” and become a part of one of the most prestigious B school alumni communities. Our alumni success stories in India and abroad are endless and so is the bond, the nostalgia, the sense of pride within the alumni community. Most people look for alumni in the hour of need (job search, internships, mentorship etc.) and try to join the Alumni Association at that time. But how can an emotion, a nostalgia, be transactional? My advice to you as my juniors would be to invest in your relationships (and not mere connections) with your alumni today so that they can help you in the future.

Welcome, dear ones, to IMT,

A school that will change your life, I vow.

You'll learn and grow and make friends aplenty,

And find your place in this world, I know.

So get involved, and make the most

Of every opportunity that comes your way.

Build relationships with your fellow alumni,

They'll be there for you, come what may.

IMT is a family, and you're now a part of it.

So embrace it, and enjoy the ride.

The future is bright, for you and for IMT,

So let's make the most of it, side by side.
