I love you

I love you

Greetings Reader,

8,925 days ago (5 May 2000), a student-made worm caused havoc to over 10 million Windows computers. It was known as the ILOVEYOU bug. A destructive email that tickled the curiosity of millions with the heart-warming subject line ‘ILOVEYOU’.

Those who opened the email would find an attachment waiting for them entitled LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs. Let me tell you Reader, this was no love letter. It was the start of a techie infection (techfection?!) that would crash computers, control system files, and cost squillions in financial damages across the globe.

“So… you don’t love me, Capt?”

Well, not in that way. But to show you I care, here are some ways to protect your business against online attacks like ILOVEYOU:

??Install antivirus software (and not a free version)

??Keep your antivirus software updated (don’t ignore those reminders)

??Never open an email attachment before screening it with antivirus software

??Don’t click on links unless you’re 1,000,000% certain it’s safe

??Block spam email addresses (if you’re not sure how, just ask)

??Educate your team on how to spot phishing emails

“Your list doesn’t strike me as a romantic gesture. But I’ll take it.”

Good, good. And if you’d like to learn more about how to protect your business from online attacks, give our crew a call on 01903 25 99 23 or comment below.

Until the next time. ??

So what am I? I am fascinated by innovation, I am amazed at what other businesses do and I am able to help them prepare robust R&D Claims and grow their business.

I've been trained that the default answer to that is "I love you too!" Sorry, that may not be appropriate!
