I love recruiting!
Many people have asked me on numerous occasions, ?do I love what I do especially after years of doing the same thing?
My answer is always a resounding YES, I LOVE IT! If you ask a classroom full of children what they want to be when they grow up, very likely, you won’t hear any of them shouting “to be a recruiter!”. Talent acquisition is definitely not a top-of-mind career choice for most people. I am very glad that there is a platform such as LinkedIn where talent scouts can connect with job seekers. It is also through this platform that more people know that they can join me in making a successful career out of recruitment!
As an experienced recruiter who has scouted thousands of talents for many big multinational companies, I can confidently say that recruitment is truly a rewarding career, simply because:
We impact the job market’s demand and supply
We bridge the gap between employers and job seekers, and ALL industries need us! Any establishments, be it public or private, as long as they need human talents to operate, they would need recruiters to help them source the right talents.
We all know that unemployment rate is an important indicator for any economy. While it is a reflection of the economy condition, I also believe that recruiters play a role in closing the gap of unemployment rate by placing the right talent at the right position. Making sure that more people get the job they want and have meaningful progression also mean that more people can now earn a decent living, and that is important to help keep the economy going!
Now, is it far fetching to say that we have a higher purpose in our role as recruiters? Maybe, but I still believe that we make meaningful contribution to the society and I will always be proud of that! ????

We positively impact people’s lives!
A committed recruiter would not rush to fill a position just to get the job done as that is just half the key performance indicator (KPI) for us. New recruit’s onboarding satisfaction, turnover rate and candidate NPS are also very important KPIs for us. Matchmake in heaven might not happen all that often, but all recruiters would still strive hard to find that perfect match between job seekers and employers.????
I am sure most of you agree that whichever job we choose would leave a huge impact on our lives since it would most probably take up most of our time until we are ready to retire. In a way, I see a job recruiter’s role as the kingmaker…we help job seekers realize their full potential by matching their abilities and career aspirations with positions that would help them achieve their life goals. A committed recruiter could help a job seeker find a rewarding career that would last a lifetime! Now, imagine that for a positive impact in one’s life!
Just like all other career choices, recruiting has it fair share of challenges and it is not made for ?everyone. But if you enjoy working with people, it is a great start and a very rewarding experience! Recruiting rocks!

3 年No doubt that being a recruiter is still my favourite job despite coming from an IT background. We not only bridge the gap between employer and candidates, but we are also building a career for the candidates and growing the company at the same time ??

3 年Indeed! I didn’t grow up saying, "I want to be a recruiter" (who does?) but ended up I fell in love for my job! Helping talents to land into their dream job and seeing them fly high in the organization are the best moments in my career! Big kudos to all recruiters! ??????

3 年Edwin Chin I can attest to the impact of your work, for I wouldn't have the chance to be part of the transformative family at PMI had it not been for you. Thanks for changing my life. BTW, I've always wondered how you spotted my C.V. among the many you screen but I guess that's your magic! Great to see Eugene Siew's name in your article, too - he's much missed!
