I Love The Learning Flexibility at American InterContinental University’’ - Ibironke O. [M.Ed.]

Ibironke is currently completing her Master of Education degree, with a specialization in Instructional Design and Education Technology at American InterContinental University. We recently spoke with her to learn more about her experience with online learning while working full-time.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about learning online at AIU??

AIU has transformed my learning experience. I love the flexibility to study whenever and wherever I need. The mobile app allows me to log in to the virtual campus even while I'm dining in a fancy restaurant. The interface of the virtual campus is sleek and modern, making navigation and access to resources seamless. The Intellipath has been a game-changer for me, helping me to learn at my own pace and level. The adaptive learning technology ensures that I only take classes that are relevant to my knowledge level, making my learning more efficient and effective.

Also, the Office Hours and Discussion Board tools offer an opportunity to engage and collaborate with classmates from different parts of the world. This has not only expanded my knowledge but also my cultural horizons. Overall, I will say that learning online at AIU has been a unique experience that is both enjoyable and effective.

Q: Are there any professors who have made a significant impact on your education??

Dr. Baarda Ahalsne is the first name that stands out. She has been a great help to me in improving my professional writing skills. When I first started, I struggled a lot, but she broke down the concepts during her live chats, which were sometimes inconvenient for me because they were at times held late at night. However, I learned a great deal during her course in the first term. Thanks to her instruction I now have a good grounding in academic writing, and I appreciate how she makes an effort to pronounce my native name accurately.

Q: What do you find most challenging about your classes??

Juggling a full-time job and an intense distance learning master's program is no easy feat. But I have been and I am determined to succeed. I have made significant progress in balancing work, family life, and studies. My secret weapon? Calendars and notifications. I schedule time for assignments, live chats, and reminders on my calendar at the beginning of each term. This ensures I never miss a deadline. I've also cut out unnecessary activities and events to accommodate my new requirements. Though it has been challenging, I have excelled in my studies. My hard work and dedication are paying off. If you're feeling overwhelmed by your studies and work, know that it is possible to succeed. With discipline and determination, you can achieve what you set your mind to.

Q: How has your degree program impacted your career??

This program has been a great asset to me, as it has helped me to enhance my analytical thinking skills. While I have yet to fully measure the extent of its impact on my work, as I have not completed the program, I am confident that with time, I will see positive results. For now, I am mostly grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow, and I strongly believe that the benefits of the degree program will be evident in due time.
