We all have that one skill we’re really good at—something that defines us.
For me, it’s growth marketing.
I recently got a question from a subscriber:
"I just came across your personal finance and investing channel?
I have always followed you for growth marketing content! Isn't that your niche?"
Well, it's a relevant question if you are thinking just as a marketer.
But as a human being, we're not uni-dimensional.
We all have learnings in different areas of life.
I love learning, executing and sharing.
This could be in any area.
For example:
These are all areas I like to learn about.
Next, I execute upon them.
And once I have data from my execution, I can share my insights with you.
Imagine if I only wrote and created content about growth marketing.
If I did, I’d just be another growth marketing expert.
Instead, the wider perspective gives me a unique niche.
This is called 'the niche of one'.
Build your own niche.
Here's how I do this:
I came up with this framework of having a CORE, and then adding Primary and secondary dimensions.
The primary dimensions are principles and mindsets that will flow into everything else.
While secondary dimensions are more like buckets of interests you have.
How do you do this?
It’s simple: Combine your key skill with other passions and principles to build a brand that is uniquely yours.
This way, you become a multi-dimensional brand, not just someone offering a single service.
Like I said, I could easily just focus on growth marketing, but here’s what I’ve layered into my niche:
Now, instead of being just another growth marketer, I have a unique niche that blends my expertise with my values and passions.
Why Does This Matter?
By bringing your own unique combination of skills and interests into the mix, you become the only one in your specific niche.
This is how you stand out in the crowded online space.
The people who resonate with your story, values, and expertise will connect with you more deeply and meaningfully.
How to Apply This to Your Own Brand
Here are some actionable steps to help you start building your own unique niche:
Step 1: Identify Your Core Strength
What is the one skill or area you’re really good at?
This could be anything from growth marketing to graphic design or teaching yoga.
This is your foundation pillar.
Step 2: Add Primary & Secondary Dimensions
What are your passions? What do you value?
Is it travel, fitness, freedom, mindfulness, investing, or something else?
Combine these with your core strength to create something unique.
Step 3: Craft Your Story
Use your unique combination to build your brand story. This story will help your audience connect with you.
They’ll see not just your expertise, but who you are and what you stand for.
Step 4: Speak to Like-minded People
Focus on connecting with those who resonate with your multi-dimensional niche.
The more personal and authentic you can be, the stronger your community will be.
Example
I'm known for growth marketing, but I’ve also made sure to infuse essentialism, productivity, investing, and parenting into the mix.
I don’t just talk about one thing; I share how all these aspects of life interconnect.
This gives me a deeper connection with my audience and allows me to create content that matters to people beyond just growth marketing.
In fact, I have a question for you..
This will help me learn more about how you perceive me:
QUESTION FOR YOU:
What do you know me for?
Is it growth marketing, investing, productivity, a balanced entrepreneur or just another marketer, or a combination of these?
Hit reply and let me know.
There's no wrong answer!
