LOL! Yes I went there....
As I have mentioned before, my Dad was a truck driver and even owned a couple of his own trucks. SO I love trucks! The other night at dinner, my sister and I were talking about the new models that had come out. She said she was sitting at a red light whenever one went by and she felt like she was in slow mode. You know, kind of like that scene in the movies when a pretty girl runs by and its in slow motion... That BUT better. I laughed, but it's true - It gets in your blood and once it's there - it's over! I tell my son all the time that he might as well pick a carrier in trucking, because the blood running through his veins will lead him there anyway. LOL!
We all have our memories of our childhood. For some, it's family beach trips or hikes in the mountains that you remember the most. I have those memories as well. BUT the visions that stick in my mind the most involve...wait for it... Barbies! Bazinga! Just Kidding.... Trucks!
Before the Super Bowl of the trucking industry (aka Mid America Truck Show) came along, these events were hosted throughout the US . So each time one was hosted near us, my family would plan out the adventure. My sister and I were able to bring a friend and the excitement would fill the house. Man, I smile just thinking about it.
Each event would have the newest trucks on display from Freightliner, Volvo, International, etc. Just the massive size and shiny paint was enough to excite a 10 year old, but that wasn't the best part. The most exciting part was getting to climb up in the driver's seat of that brand new truck and feel like your were invincible. All the gages, buttons and gadgets were so awesome. Man... I thought you surely had to have a degree from NASA to operate one of those things, which meant I had the coolest Dad on the planet. (BTW... I still do!)
Outside of all the Optimus Primes in the building, there were hundreds of vendors setup everywhere. You could play with the newest CB's, look at the next best thing in technology (not having a clue what a computer was at that time - so whatever was there was so cool), and getting to get all kinds of FREE stuff. Pencils....pens.... cups.... notebooks.... Our bags would be filled to the top with all sorts of stuff. It was like Christmas for us and we couldn't wait to get home and compare everything we got.
It was awesome!!!! So today as one of my employees announced that the Mid-America Trucking Show was only a few weeks away, it reminded me just how much of an impact this industry has had on me my entire life! I love what I do and I love this industry. There are so many people that hate their jobs, but I have been blessed to love mine.
I hope that you can say the same!
Keep on Truckin'!!!
