I Learn, Therefore I Am!

I Learn, Therefore I Am!

One of my friends tells me, “You have a version of OCD, called OCL — Obsessive Compulsive Learning.”

Learner, yes, that I sure am. Happy to earn a valuable certification in 'Organization Development' from the very esteemed, TISS and the much respected ODA.

My learning instincts and endeavours are always in perpetual mode, and there are reasons for that.

René Descartes said, “Cogito, ergo sum” — “I think, therefore I am,”. This emphasizes the importance of consciousness in affirming one’s existence.

Building upon this notion, I see a profound connection between learning and human existence. It is through learning that individuals fulfill their potential, expand their horizons, and truly come alive.

Through evolution, we humans have always embarked on a perpetual journey of learning. From the moment we are born until the end of our lives, learning shapes our thoughts, actions, and, ultimately, our being.

I believe there is an intrinsic connection between learning and existence. We, each one of us, exist as individuals, as a social being, and as a unit of this magnificent world, thanks to our learning.

Sharing my thoughts: How four key components of our Existence are aided to and facilitated by our Learning:

SELF-DISCOVERY

Learning encourages introspection and reflection. It allows us to develop a better understanding of our aspirations, values, and purpose.

Learning serves as a catalyst for self-discovery. As we engage in learning, we challenge our existing beliefs, expand our perspectives, and develop critical thinking skills.

Learning facilitates self-discovery by helping us uncover our passions, interests, and talents. By exploring various subjects and disciplines, we gain insights into our strengths and weaknesses.

As we learn, we embark on a journey of self-realization, unearthing our true potential and becoming more cognizant of our unique place in the world. Learning shapes our identity.

CONSCIOUS COGNITION

Learning, a fundamental aspect of human nature, is deeply ingrained in our cognitive development and intellectual growth.

It is through learning that we gain knowledge, skills, and insights that successfully enable us to navigate our world.

From the basic acquisition of language and motor skills during early childhood to the acquisition of expertise in specific fields, learning remains a lifelong journey.

Each encounter with new information or experience contributes to the expansion of our intellectual, emotional, and social capabilities.

Through formal and informal education, we gain access to a vast array of subjects, ideas, and disciplines that shape our understanding of the world.

SOCIAL CONNECTION

Learning not only enhances individual growth but also fosters social development and connection.

Through education and shared experiences, we gain insights into various cultures, beliefs, and perspectives.

Learning promotes empathy, understanding, and tolerance among us. This helps bridge societal divides and fostering harmonious coexistence.

It fuels intellectual discourse and collaborative problem-solving, enabling individuals to work together towards common goals.

In this interconnected world, where global challenges need collective action, learning serves as a unifying force, promoting cooperation, and nurturing among us a sense of global citizenship.

WORLD ORIENTATION

Learning empowers us to question assumptions, seek evidence, and form our own opinions. It fosters intellectual autonomy, enabling us to discern truth from falsehood and make informed decisions.

Learning equips us with the tools we need to navigate life’s challenges. It enhances our problem-solving abilities, enabling us to overcome obstacles, embrace change, and adapt to new circumstances.

In today’s rapidly evolving world, where technological advancements and societal shifts reshape our reality, the ability to learn becomes increasingly crucial.

Lifelong learners possess the resilience and adaptability needed to thrive in this dynamic landscape. They embrace continuous growth, champion innovation, and remain open-minded, making them more equipped to face the uncertainties of the future.

Great philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca?said,

“As long as you live, keep learning how to live.”

He was so right. We can see the intrinsic connection between learning and human existence in many, many ways.

I invite you to come along on this perpetual journey of learning, as I truly believe in and live by,

“I Learn, Therefore I Am.”
