This has been a very exciting week for me!
After two and a half years and more than 100 episodes of Creative Elements, we've now brought the show to YouTube!
If you're unfamiliar with the show, Creative Elements is an interview show talking with today’s top creators.
Through narrative interviews, I explore how creators like Tim Urban, James Clear, Tori Dunlap, and Codie Sanchez are building their audiences today. Not what worked 2, 5, or 10 years ago, but specific strategies and tactics that are working for them today.
The show has been more successful than I could have anticipated. It's been featured in Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Castbox, Pocket Casts, and more. Right now it has nearly 350 ratings across Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and ALL of them 5-stars!
OK, that's enough bragging and backstory.
An audio-only podcast is challenging to grow. It runs almost exclusively on word-of-mouth, and there are a lot of people and things competing for that word-of-mouth!
I've envied video podcasts because YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world, owned by the largest search engine in the world (Google). Every second, hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions of people are searching for SOMETHING on YouTube.
That means that YouTube is doing the work of introducing new viewers to your content...something that audio-only podcasts don't really have.
So I've always had an eye toward YouTube, but I wasn't sure how to pull it off.
Because here's the thing – when people talk about Creative Elements, they often talk about how well the show is produced:
And I knew that if I was going to publish these episodes on YouTube, I wanted them to be remarkably produced too. But not only is video not one of my main skillsets, but I also just didn't have the time to put into editing.
Luckily for me, an incredible editor named Conor reached out and pitched me on bringing the show to video.
After several months of work behind the scenes, I'm proud to say we published the first episode yesterday and I'm thrilled to share it!
Our goal with this show is to make a 60-minute interview as visually engaging as a 60-second TikTok. I know that sounds like a crazy goal, but that's the bar we're striving for – and I think we're well on our way.
