I Know It Sounds Dramatic, But...
Sarah Dray
Attorney & Founder/CEO at Dray Translations - Trusted Legal Translations for Dun's Top 20 Firms & Beyond | President of EO Israel |
One year ago, I made a decision that transformed not just my career, but my life.
Joining Entrepreneurs' Organization wasn’t just a step forward—it was a complete game-changer.
Community
After a year of having the EO application open in a browser tab, I finally decided to join late last summer. Little did I know how timely that decision would be.
Shortly after, Israel experienced one of the darkest days in its history—the October 7th Hamas attack. The terror disrupted life as we knew it and brought overwhelming uncertainty and grief.
My world grinded to a halt, and in it, I found a vacuum of pain, uncertainty, and mourning.
But what I didn’t expect was the immense sense of community that emerged from EO, both locally and globally. Within days, a WhatsApp group was created with hundreds of EO members worldwide, all eager to support Israel and its business owners. I was invited to join the leadership team of this group (thanks Orin Green, CFP for recruiting me!), and together we launched initiatives that had an immediate impact.
Here are a few ways EO members stepped up:
Through this leadership group, I found support and amazing friendships in so many wonderful people, as we teamed up to make a difference. Big love to Ami Kassar , Sejal Lakhani-Bhatt - The Cybersecurity Chick , Nir Zavaro , Effie Bar-Caspi , Jason Glaser , Daniella Menachemson , Mason Harris , @Jeffrey Wolf, and @Lori Gallagher ??
Growth + Self-Perception
If you asked me a few years ago what I do for a living, I would have probably answered something along the lines of: "I have a translations company," or "I'm an attorney but now I'm running a translations business."
Regarding myself as an entrepreneur or even a business owner/founder was not yet on the table by any stretch.
Despite owning multiple businesses, I was stuck in a self-limiting loop of learned "humility" and fear of breaking past the glass ceiling.

It was only after joining an organization so aptly titled that I realized that I truly was an entrepreneur, with everything that entails.
Having this realization lifted a weight off me that I didn't realize I was carrying. Instead of keeping myself and my career small (in an attempt at being palatable, most likely), I was free to imagine success that was so much more limitless.
The amount of a-ha moments that I came to during conversations with Michèle Hecken has absolutely changed the trajectory of my career and I owe her so much! Working with Michele played a massive role in reimaging what is possible.
I'm also ever-grateful to Bill Gallagher , who has opened my eyes to so many possibilities, opportunities, and encouraged me to dream bigger than I had allowed myself to ever before.
Leadership
So, ... confession time. I'm the President of the EO Israel chapter. ??
Talk about breaking past imposter syndrome. I went from joining EO as a member, to joining the Board as Communications Chair a few months later, and finding myself President of the Israeli chapter within a year.
Being President of this chapter has given me the opportunity to dip my toes into the magical waters of "leading leaders." Leading a team of driven entrepreneurs does come with its challenges—navigating different perspectives, ensuring value for all members, and balancing it all during a time of crisis. But these challenges have pushed me to grow beyond my comfort zone.
I'm proud to run a board comprised of amazing business owners, who also happen to be wonderful people and dear friends. Together, we're working hard to grow our Israeli chapter, bring immense value to our members, and change and grow together.
The leadership opportunities haven't ended there. I just returned from Mallorca, where EO Europe ran an incredible 2-day European Leadership Conference for all Presidents and Board Members in the Europe Region.
In just two days, I left Mallorca full of new ideas, friendships, and a sense of gratitude that will power my journey as a leader.
Big thanks and love to all of the new friends I've made (too many of you to tag!), all the people who have shared their wisdom with me, and all of the people who have inspired me and are committed to growing and learning. ????
