I Know I Should Exercise But...

I don't always use the "E" word. Because folks get violent and act like I cursed them.

No, not evil, but the word exercise!

Some prefer "workout" others "physical fitness," either way, we have to move our bodies. I believe movement is a gift that we either choose to open or not. However, when we lose the gift we complain or we're sadden because we realize we took it for granted.

That's arrogant.

The thing is exercise and movement doesn't have to be deep.

I teach my clients how to do it even without the gym because we saw what happened to when we couldn't go to the gym. So, I've eliminated the #excuse of the gym.

Because I work with entrepreneurs and many at the senior level, I know they're at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease due to constant sitting in front of a computer all day and not getting movement. This makes movement more critical.

To be completely transparent, every day isn't all good for me either. Sometimes I have to just grab my jump rope and get some movement in or walk around my workspace. However, incorporating a system helps to consistently get it. And starting off simple with something like jump rope is perfect.

For instance, you don't need a physical jump rope, again #noexcuses you can use an invisible air jump rope. Still gets you moving and your heart rate up. It's okay to go back to the basics! Let's go back to gym class to get you moving!

If you are ready for change and want to get started now with some basics. I challenge you to do at least one of the following 3 times this week.

  • Take a walk around your neighborhood, 15 minute minimum
  • Do 100 jumping jacks, can be broken up into 10, 20, 25, 50, etc.
  • Take the stairs in your home or building up and down 5 times minimum (higher floors, conquer the first 1, 2, or 3 then increase along the way)
  • Jump rope for 5 min, if you don't have one an invisible is fine and breaks are ok

If your body could talk, what would it say? Would it say thank you for "taking care of me" or would it say, "you always put other things and people before me.... why don't you love me as much as them?

Let's not take movement, exercise, working out or our physical fitness for granted any longer. You're worthy of the gift.

Oh yes! Intentionally focused on moving the body. As they say, if you don’t use it , you loose it! Great points

If my body could talk, it would say girl go for a walk and rest! Thank you for the helpful tips and real talk about what our bodies need. Movement is so good for our emotional health and well-being, and its easy to get distracted in the hustle of work and miss it. Thank you April!

Good tips. I tell my clients to gobfor a 15 walk turn around and come back the same way they walked- Boom! It turns into a 30 minute walk.
