*I just started my menstrual cycle and was wondering why my productivity levels were so low?
Period Day 1?
World: Alarm rings?
Me: I can't move my legs, my whole lower body aches and I need another 16 hours sleep?
World: calendar pings “project team go starts today > big meeting at 8am”
Me: I don't want to speak to people let alone be in a room filled with lots of humans talking, hide me and where’s my black clothes??
World: After this epic meeting toxic Steve needs you for some other challenges in the project.

Me: Meh who cares I need a duvet pillow and a large monitor to watch my favorite rom com.?
Today I made so many mistakes at work, I got into an argument with my colleague about something so trivial. I felt tired, hot, sweaty and against the clock the entire day. I felt like the time didn't belong to me. I wanted to go a whole 2 hours slower than what my office needed from me today. I wolfed down my lunch and haven't even had a single glass of water. I was super self conscious and taking long trips to the toilet to fix change or refresh my mooncup.?
My confidence was so low I began creating narratives in my mind that I will definitely be fired by the end of the week. I wasn't good enough, my work was mediocre and why did they hire me anyway??
The science bit…?
It's common for some people to experience changes in productivity levels during their period cycle. This is due to the hormonal changes that occur during the menstrual cycle, which can affect physical and emotional well-being. Some of the symptoms that can affect productivity include:
It's important to manage the symptoms and communicate with your workplace? or manager if you need any accommodation during this time. Some people find it helpful to schedule important meetings or projects outside of their period cycle, or to take time off work if they are feeling particularly unwell. Some companies also have flexible policies for period leave or period policies (check in at the interview stage so you’re ahead of the curve).
It's also important to take care of yourself during this time. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating well, and engaging in activities that you enjoy. You could also consider talking to a period coach if you are struggling with symptoms that are affecting your productivity.
