People say, “I don’t have discipline” or “I’m just not disciplined enough” because it quickly and effortlessly directs attention away from their choices.

Both these statements distance the person from discipline being in their control. You can’t be responsible if you “don’t have it”.

But discipline isn’t something you have or don’t have. It’s not a possession. Discipline is something you do or don’t do.

It’s a decision and action. The truth about discipline is it’s never established, never permanent. You can do it or avoid it any time you want. But it’s always you who chooses.

If you want to increase self-awareness, self-control, and self-confidence, then say,

“I didn’t choose discipline” or “I’m not choosing discipline enough”.

From this position, you can start making different choices because you take more responsibility. You’re in control of it.
