"I hit the wall, when I am faced with a blank sheet of paper I get writer's block."

"I hit the wall, when I am faced with a blank sheet of paper I get writer's block."

That is because you are trying to force yourself to write about the wrong thing.

And you are bored.

That's all.

It is probably because the topic is too broad and you are drawing a blank because you subconsciously have overwhelmed yourself with too many choices.

?

Take these actions TODAY:

  • Complete this (magic) sentence: "The particular aspect of this topic I need to know more about, in order to feel prepared to write this blog, is _______."

Example:

You are trying to write about how to pick the best 529 plan. You get writer's block and can't get a word on the paper.

Then you ask yourself the magic sentence and your response is: "The particular aspect of this topic I need to know more about is why some 529 plans have higher fees than others."

You then conduct some research and the words start to flow on the paper:

  • What the highest fee 529 plans are
  • What the lowest fee plans are
  • If there is a service difference at all
  • What the impact on 529 fees are on the balance over time

Yeah?

Yaaaaah.

BOOM - there you go, today's marketing tip for ya!

Sara Grillo, CFA The strategy that I am seeing more and more people use on LinkedIn and elsewhere is to rely upon AI to generate their content. There are three problems that I see with this practice: 1.) The AI generated content stands out from and reads very differently than the writer's normal content. 2.) When some readers realize that the content was generated by AI rather than the author, they get turned off and stop reading the post or article. 3.) A writer who relies too much on AI can get lazy and can lose critical thinking skills. 4.) AI still continues to produce some content that is plagued by mistakes and false statements. To return to the original question: How to break through writer's block? AI is one "solution" that an increasing number of people are using--but at what price? Dr. Donald Moine
