I Hereby Quit My Job with Immediate Effect

You Have Human Rights

Working as if you are a slave in a century of freedom and your own country or in another county is not good at all. There is just no way someone can be overusing you and paying you peanuts.

In life you need to know your worth and stand up for your rights. There is a lot of exploitation and abuse of workers’ rights in this world and sad enough it is tolerated.

The list of your reasons for quitting your job goes on and on as you vehemently labour to stress your point to everyone as to why you are not some ordinary person that anyone should think they can play around with.

The Dawn of Reality

After nicely quitting your job on your own, and having shouted and insulted the company officials with everyone clapping that you are the man/woman, you go home and comfort yourself that you have done it.

The taste of victory and being a hero is definitely sweet until the amounts you thought you have in savings start to deplete faster than you ever imagined and your monthly bills of water, food, electricity, rent, and gas among others start to scream in your face.

Upon realising this, you frantically start looking for employment everywhere. With almost no money, you have to walk long distances and jump on buses. This is the reality of life.

You drop so many letters and start to wait for that all important call for invitation even just to the interviews. You will be lucky if it comes faster. For some people, they have to wait for a long time.

What to Do Before Resigning

There are certain things an employee should consider before they say quit including but not limited to the following:

(1). Establish the Problem

In life, it is easier to see your employer as being evil and doing things that you think are so bad to you.

(a). Check the Provisions of the Law

Sometimes you may think you are paid slave wages and made to work for long hours of work. A check on the labour laws might reveal that maybe those are the salaries and hours allowable by the laws in your country. So, check with the relevant authorities or Advisors.

(b). Check the Provisions of Your Contract/Conditions of Services

Take time to read and understand the fine prints in your contract hopefully you have one.

Where in doubt about certain things the employer offered you, feel free to go to the Ministry/Department of Labour in your country and ask them if what you were made to sign was even legal.

If you establish that what you were offered or the hours you are working or any other issue is within the law it is just that you can get something better somewhere else, then make a plan to quit.

(2). Have a Proper Exit Strategy

Making resignation decisions purely on emotions is bad for you and anyone that might depend on your income. Have a clear roadmap before you quite.

(a) Job Applications & Interviews

When you are still young without many family responsibilities or loans, etc., you can quit your job almost anytime and run back to stay with the parents or relatives or anywhere else where you can find free accommodation and food.

For many however, it is advisable that you sit down, think of a proper exit strategy, and start making job applications. You have to clean your CV and work on your interview skills.

Continue applying and attending interviews when you have to before thinking of quitting your job.

(b) New Employment Contract Award

Again, the promise of a job, being told you came out number one in the interviews, and all sorts of things prospective employers say should not excite you and make you go and resign.

Sometimes things change and you find you are left hanging in the sun. Out of excitement you resign and they cannot offer you the job on the other side. That will be the beginning of some nice agony for you.

Be patient until the other company gives you a contract of employment. Read that contract and all the terms and conditions being offered. Consult your Advisors and any other Authorities and then you can sign.

Again, you signing does not mean you get the job. Wait until the employer also signs and you have your copy of the contract in your hands.

Upon securing the new employment contract, you can then proceed to tender in your resignation with your current employer.

(3) Have a Dignified Separation

Regardless of how terrible you might think your employer is, be professional and simply leave in peace when the time comes. If it is in institutions where they conduct Exit Interviews to find out reasons why employees leave, be honest and tell them your reasons.

It is not the best of ideas to think you are a hero and insult everyone because now you are leaving to the so called better job or workplace.

Closing Remarks

In conclusion, whatever happens in your life, be it good or bad employment conditions and anything you might want to think about, be appreciative because everything might happen for a reason.

Regardless of situations surrounding why you wish to quit your employment, think twice, and do not make emotional decisions. Where you need help, ask HR people or Advisors who may help you step by step to do the appropriate thing.
