I hear all of your excuses (how's that working out for you?)

I hear all of your excuses (how's that working out for you?)

This is what my (ideal) typical day looks like…

5am - alarm goes off

5:10am - listen to a meditation / breathwork recording in bed

5:25am - listen to a higher wisdom recording

5:40am - chug a big glass of water and take my morning supplements

5:45am - sit down and journal (reflect) on what came up for me during/after my meditation

(NOTE: Some days I do the above later as I get outside and do a trail run and jump in a icy cold river)

6:30am - stretch and get a light workout in to get the blood pumping

7:00am - begin my work day (Slack, Email, Community Engagement, Projects, Team Meetings, etc)

9:00am - create a piece of content (usually inspired by what came up during my meditation)

(NOTE: We have a live in nanny who gets our kids up around this time … and yes … I CREATED a life where we could afford to do this)

11:00pm - break for lunch upstairs and hang out with the kids for 20 mins

12:00pm - back at my work day (more meetings, creative projects, podcast interviews, etc)

2:30pm - take my afternoon supplements and drink a smoothie

5:00pm - end my day … head outside with the kids to play & workout (with them)

6:00pm - eat supper with my family at the table so we can talk about the day

6:30pm - more play with the kids or chill with my wife and watch a Netflix show

7:00pm - get the kids prepped for bed time (brush teeth, PJs, etc)

7:30pm - let the kids watch 20 mins of Youtube Kids videos or Spanish lessons on Duolingo

8:00pm - read the “Breathe Like A Bear” book to the kids (to calm them down)

8:30pm - lie down with the kids and put them to bed.

9:00pm - sit down at the computer and prep for my next day (and do some evening reflection journaling)

9:30 - 10:00 pm - go to bed (with my sleep headband on to listen to a 10 min meditation to calm my mind)

Rinse and repeat.?

Now….to be clear…I’m not “perfect” every single day.

Many of these things I’m still building “habits” around to turn them into “ways of being”.

And, of course, I have kids that don’t always follow a routine without resistance. :)

Want proof..... ?? (watch this video )

There are days I go to bed a bit too late and wake up later.?

There are days I get into my emails earlier that I’d like to.

There are days I don’t find the time to work out.

I was inspired to write this post because of a similar one I came across by Derek Mclauchlan

Check out his post here: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/derek-m-a3a65559_i-keep-seeing-these-li-influencer-type-posts-activity-6947845420094025728--APV

I wrote this because he was expressing frustration over all the “sensationalized” posts on LinkedIn where people talk about getting up at 4am to drink their “fruit and veg infused smoothie before doing a 10k run, then on to business where they are shaping the lives of their 80k followers and knocking out 6 figure deals.”

I hear you Derek M … and I see you.

And, I’m not buying into your “story”.

I saw my OLD self in your daily routine.

I saw my OLD self in the comments on your post.

I saw my OLD self in the beliefs / mindset of you and the people in your comments.

I chose a different “story”.

I took personal responsibility to BE the change.

I aligned with the belief that taking care of ME should be priority #1.

I dropped the excuse that I “don’t have time” because I have kids.

I changed the belief that I had to “hustle” to create the life I’ve always dreamed of.

I expanded time and created hard NO’s in my priority to-do list.

And, and if you have got this far…I’m here to tell you…

You can make that CHOICE too!

The “impact” and “influence” you want to create in the world will amplify from you making that choice.

I’m curious to know …. what does your daily routine look like?

And, if it's not what would allow you to live your best life...

What would your daily routine look like if you stopped telling yourself you “don’t have time” to prioritize your self care, health, fitness, family, relationship, etc, etc, etc?

Excuses (or reasons - whatever guise we give them) prevent growth, happiness and freedom. It’s that simple.
