I have joined an exclusive members club.

Studies show that only 2% of people end up completing authoring a book that gets published. Shocking. However, I empathise with people that do not complete writing a book.

There are several factors you should consider when starting the journey of authoring a book:

? It requires planning: Not just the structure of the book but where you will allocate the time in your busy schedule.

--->It will impact your daily routine and social life if you are serious about getting it done.

? It requires a lot of time: Physically to write but there is also a mental investment required to formulate ideas, conduct research and craft the book to be your greatest work.

? It requires collaboration: Before you start you need accountability partners, editors (I would suggest more than one to get a diverse perspective), proof-readers, and someone who understand the business behind publishing and the book economy.

I can official say I am a two percenter, celebrate with me. lol.

Though I make gist of being a two percenter, imagine the statistics of Black published authors, is it significantly less. Consequently, there has been an increased number of published authors since George Floyds Murder in 2020.

But we still need more Black authors!!

Why?

? The black narrative only changes when our voices are amplified and recognised. Social media is a great tool but unless you go viral, your post can get lost in the matrix. Whereas, a book can be accessible to many generations, whether as an eBook, hardback or audiobook.

? History teaches us that those who author books or journals can influence thinking that can shape legislation and societal behaviour.

? The more ideas we share, the greater opportunity to implement those ideas within our community. Whatever is circulated will eventually be embedded. The raving culture grew because we saw flyers, people attended raves and then told someone about it. The same can apply for books.

? We need to believe our own hype and stop apologising for being ourselves. Books can help embed ideas that reinforce our sense of culture and identity.

? Our ideas are enough to rescue people in our community who are angry and lost. We have enough wisdom in our arsenal to save ourselves, we do not need a saviour.

My book is important for me as it is a life goal achieved and a skillset that has laid dormant for years. However, I become sober when I think of the ramifications when my book becomes successful. However, I will need your support to make that possible. NOOOO Pressure, lol.

Seriously, as a Black man in the UK, I am over the disrespectful narrative that is allowed to be circulated across mainstream media continuously to trigger us to make us feel less than.

Authoring a book is bigger than a vanity project of my wonderfully crafted ideas, it is about changing the narrative for my community, one book at a time.
