I have issues with the idea of "spending time with people more successful than you"

I have some issues with the concept "spend time with people more successful than you". I understand its premise that if I spend time with people doing great things it is more likely to encourage me to also do great things. I agree it can and it does. I regularly mastermind with people who are doing great things. But that doesn't mean they are more successful than me or better than me. You see there are several points here.

1) Who judges what successful  , and, what you think is success might not be   for me. Luckily we are not all driven by the same things. That's why I love people. 

2) If we ignore point 1 and say there are people who are more successful. Why would they want to spend time with someone who isn't successful and only wants to be with them in order to gain success for themselves?

3) You need to work out why you feel you haven't achieved the level of success you feel you could and want to achieve. It's not about copying someone else. 

Instead how about spending time masterminding with or spending time with people you care about and respect for what they have achieved. Who also in return respect and care about you. People who see things differently to you,   varied experiences mean they have different views, ideas   beliefs so they can question yours in a supportive way to enable you to be the best version of you. 

I accept we might not all agree with this as it is just my view.
