I have a confession....
I can get quite obsessed over stuff. Now I can not help it and I must admit it works for me but sometimes I can't just stop. I mean I know I need to but I really can not stop. Once I have a system to something I just have to roll it out. I mean I actually love working and I have to admit I love having lots to do, many balls in the air and living off a little adrenaline.
Years ago when I worked in travel as a sales executive I would use "stress" as a motivator. The fear of not being successful. The fear would "push" me to go that extra mile, do one more thing than other's and get better results. Using "fear" to motivate me to be better, to get more done and be more successful with my system really worked.
If you follow me on Linkedin (and please do) you will know that I work it in a systematic way. It has been a very successful platform for me and people are always asking me on how I use it (and sometimes why I use it?) I have spoken at events, taught people how to use it effectively and even run a few pods. Once you have a system that works all you need to do is follow it. Sometimes my little guilty confession is I can't stop. Particularly when I am getting results. I simply want more.
Has that ever happened to you and maybe not just with business but perhaps with something like food?
You have a chocolate and it tastes so good. That first one is amazingly good. You might even comment to a friend or partner. "Wow that was so good" Now you know that one was enough but because it was so yummy you just want to have one more....Now where does that end? Is the second one as good? Or are you chasing that first great taste only to dilute the enjoyment of the first amazing chocolate?
Business is my chocolate. I love it and I love empowering others to get the results they desire. I feel so amazing when I see the smile on my clients faces. I feel so happy when I empower them to do the best work of their lives.
Now I need to be honest here and tell you that years back at first I was a terrible Manager. When I worked in travel and first started Managing teams I managed like I had been managed. You see many businesses owners have a great service or product. They start a business and they may not instantly be great leaders. Managing staff or running a business is a completely different skill. And you simply don't know what you don't know - right?
No one is perfect and no one knows it all. I am still learning everyday. What I do know to be true is that we are in the drivers seat of our own lives. If we are not where we want to be, if we are not yet as successful as we dream......then maybe we are a little stuck.
What works for me when I feel a little stuck....
- Ask for help.
- Be curious at what works for others
- Step our of your comfort zone
- Create new possibilities
- Change your energy (go for a walk give yourself some time to process)
Creating a future that excites you and that you are passionate about starts here. It starts with the sentence "I AM....." Whatever you say after that, whatever you are telling yourself, you are creating what you are and what you want to become.

5 年It took me a while to get back to this and read it but I am so glad I did Sandy. You are right about management being a learnt skill, and it is one that needs to be constantly updated, it needs to be flexible and suit the environment. A part of that is also learning to manage yourself and your expectations. Thank you again for a great article!
Thanks for all the comments and likes really appreciate it....I AM GRATEFUL!

5 年John Clare's poem, I AM , sums up, how the world, would have us. But the one above, will give us, a much better destiny.
You are creating what you are and what you want to be....everyday. What is your I am.........today?
