I have a confession to make...

My number one fear isn’t public speaking. It is Artificial Intelligence.

This fact is perhaps the closest tie between Elon Musk and I. We both agree AI poses the greatest risk to humanity. I haven’t seen I, Robot and I don’t have a Roomba. We have resisted connecting any <insert voice-command IoT device or hub here> in our home. Despite working in product design and building new communities around innovation the last decade, I keep it pretty analog behind the curtain. A clock ticks in the living room as I write this… Anyway, you get the idea.

If you can’t fight them, join them.

My fear of AI stems from an early age. A vague memory of a short story, horrifically describing the uprising of our robot overlords, rises to the murky surface. Not sure who wrote it or where I read it, but it’s burned in my mind. Silly, I know. But the fear has been real. For too long.

Eight days ago, I welcomed a new client to the Savvy Millennial family. I knew the project would challenge me, but I underestimated how it would enlighten me. The last week has rapidly shown me that my fear is both futile and ignorant. But there’s hope for us mere mortals. Read on for first the truth, then the solution, then your invitation to join that solution.

Mass adoption of AI is already here:

(as the SingularityNET blog highlights:)

  • “Hundreds of hedge funds are directed by AI-engines, trading billions of dollars in securities each day.
  • Tech giants use AI to process billions of real-time data points every minute.
  • Over half of all insurance companies use machine-learning algorithms to make critical operational decisions.
  • The $1.7 trillion healthcare industry is rapidly deploying AI systems for surgery, diagnosis, drug discovery, and more.”

I met the SingularityNET Head of PR, Marcello Mari, in Maratea, Italy at an innovation event where we were both speaking. What he told me first blew my mind, then challenged it, and finally left it feeling at ease. Yes, a conference cocktail helped, but it’s true. He gave me my my first dose of AI-reality. The illuminating education I’m learning comes rapidly to those eager to soak it up.

The more I learn about AI now and in the future, the calmer I am. Somewhat ironically, the more I also feel ignited and compelled to act. AI in the wrong hands, or in those too centralized, conjures up justifiably haunting sci-fi scenarios that could rationally play out. (My inner child) and I still fear the negative implications of AI-gone-wrong- but I realize now there are people working to prevent precisely that. And they are awesome.

Meet my new friends & collaborative clients, SingularityNET.

SingularityNET is AI + Blockchain. The optimization of AI agents through smart contracts and the decentralization of the AI economy. It is the platform that will ensure AI is used for good.

If I haven’t convinced you to learn more yet, take the words of SingularityNET CEO Dr. Ben Goertzel on why he’s assembled the team to launch the platform of our Artificial Intelligence present and future. He says it better than I ever could. Dive even deeper in the SingularityNET whitepaper.

You can also watch Ben on stage with Sophia and Einstein, the humanoid robots from Hanson Robotics at Web Summit. Hanson Robotics is an early SingularityNET partner and we appreciate that Sophia’s fashion sense includes SingularityNET apparel. They casually discussed the important matters of the world in Lisbon.

CNBC also recently interviewed Sophia and Ben as well in Singapore (interview below.) You’ll see the journalists on the program have many of the same questions I used to have. That is, until the SingularityNET team brought me up to speed.

In closing, I should disclose that reading Ramez Naam’s Nexus trilogy before meeting the SingularityNET team prepped me emotionally and intellectually for my transition to the AI side. I am grateful to him and my crowdsourced network of insightful AI/Blockchain/Crypto friends who make this kind of work possible.

The future of AI is here. We hope you’ll join us.

Hi Savannah, We are signing our first big contract. Thanks for your inspiration on my journey, I like that photo of the top of the robots artificial skull. I have been curious about that space for a while.

Thank you, I needed to read this! It has been my fear for a while and why I've largely left content off Facebook.
