Leveraging Generative AI in Digital Marketing: A Game Changer for Modern Businesses
In the rapidly evolving landscape of digital marketing, staying ahead of the curve is not just a competitive advantage—it's a necessity. One of the most transformative technologies to emerge in recent years is generative AI. This cutting-edge innovation is reshaping the way businesses approach marketing, offering unprecedented opportunities for creativity, efficiency, and personalization.
What is Generative AI?
Generative AI refers to algorithms, particularly neural networks, that can create new content based on the data they have been trained on. Unlike traditional AI, which operates within predefined parameters, generative AI can produce original text, images, audio, and even video content. The most notable examples include OpenAI's GPT-4, DALL-E, and other advanced models.

My Thoughts
Good ol' reliable... or is it? I wanted to start off by saying this is by far the "easiest" blog post that I have produced this quarter. This isn't the first time that I have used ChatGPT, and it certainly isn't the first time that I have been less than impressed by the content it generated for me. I mean, yeah sure, it is easy to use and generates results immediately (sometimes) but if we are being honest, the blog it gave above was a little dry.
ChatGPT did give us some good points about the topic but I wish it could have had more substance. For example, it listed some ways in which generative AI is being used in digital marketing, but little to no further explanation. You would think that for a blog about digital marketing, you would want to be a little less vague about the topic. It also spent more time talking about what AI is rather than the use of it in marketing. This might be because it knows itself well. I don't know, but again with the point I made above, the blog was supposed to be about the use of AI in digital marketing, not primarily AI.
How I Envision Digital Marketers Using AI in the Future
We are already starting to experience AI being used in our everyday tasks and jobs, and I don't think that use will slow down anytime soon. It has simplified tasks for some and created more trouble for others, regardless it is improving frequently and is becoming a more common tool utilized within workplaces. The Ringer, a company that is known for covering topics such as sports, pop culture, and tech, produced a podcast about AI being used within our careers. Kevin Roose, a tech columnist at The New York Times, speaks to Derek Thompson about how he uses it within his career. To summarize their session, here is what the journalist/podcaster finds AI most useful for searching, brainstorming, role-playing for speeches, health suggestions, and learning. He also spoke against its ability to truly be accurate and instead noted that it is better at doing tasks that don't require a great amount of actuality.
Just as Kevin recalled his experiences with AI, there are many similar uses for it within our jobs. In digital marketing specifically, I think that the usage of AI will become an extremely powerful and helpful tool, especially as it evolves over time. Many marketing departments are already using AI, in fact, an end-of-year report showed that 69% of marketing departments pay for subscriptions that include AI tools.
The area that I see AI being most valuable in is data. The basis of digital marketing is data, and even that includes the not-so-fun task of gathering and processing it. AI has the ability to collect, sort, and process the data much faster, efficiently, and accurately than an average digital marketer might. Through the use of AI, there is also the possibility of this process becoming more accessible to those who may not have had the resources to do so in the past. If the data collection and processing are taken care of, it could help digital marketers make better-informed decisions more quickly. The use of this technology would also free up some of the tasks on a digital marketer's plate, and allow them to focus on other tasks that might be of more importance or urgency. There are many more ways in which I can see AI being helpful in the future, especially for a digital marketer, but at the end of the day, it is all in the data. I am both anxious and excited to see how AI continues to impact the field in which I will be entering in very soon.
