I had ChatGPT do my homework, and then I critiqued it.

In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, businesses are constantly seeking innovative strategies to stay ahead of the curve. Enter generative AI, a revolutionary technology that is reshaping the realm of digital marketing. From content creation to customer engagement, generative AI offers a plethora of opportunities for businesses to enhance their marketing efforts and drive success. Let's delve into how businesses can leverage generative AI to elevate their digital marketing game.

Content Creation Reinvented: Generative AI enables businesses to create high-quality, engaging content at scale, revolutionizing the content creation process. By analyzing vast amounts of data, generative AI algorithms can generate compelling blog posts, social media updates, product descriptions, and more. This not only saves time and resources but also ensures consistency and relevance across all marketing channels.

Personalized Marketing Campaigns: One of the key advantages of generative AI in digital marketing is its ability to personalize marketing campaigns. By leveraging user data and machine learning algorithms, businesses can tailor their marketing messages to individual preferences and behaviors. Whether it's personalized email campaigns, targeted ads, or customized product recommendations, generative AI empowers businesses to deliver highly relevant content that resonates with their audience.

Enhanced Customer Engagement: Generative AI opens up new avenues for enhancing customer engagement and interaction. Chatbots powered by generative AI can provide personalized assistance to customers, answer queries in real-time, and even engage in natural conversations. This not only improves customer satisfaction but also streamlines the customer support process, leading to greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Optimized SEO Strategies: Search engine optimization (SEO) is crucial for ensuring visibility and driving traffic to your website. Generative AI can analyze search trends, keywords, and user behavior to optimize your SEO strategy. By generating high-quality content that aligns with search intent and ranking factors, businesses can improve their search engine rankings and attract more organic traffic.

Automated Content Curation: Keeping up with the latest trends and curating relevant content can be a time-consuming task for businesses. Generative AI can automate content curation by analyzing news articles, social media posts, and other sources to identify relevant topics and trends. This allows businesses to stay updated and share timely, curated content with their audience, without manual intervention.

Conclusion: Generative AI represents a paradigm shift in digital marketing, offering businesses unprecedented opportunities to create personalized, engaging content, enhance customer engagement, and optimize marketing strategies. By harnessing the power of generative AI, businesses can stay competitive in today's dynamic marketplace and drive meaningful results. Embracing this transformative technology is not just an option but a necessity for businesses looking to thrive in the digital age.

I absolutely hate this

Something that I have always appreciated about writing is how much you stand to gain from other's work. We all use slightly different wording, comprise sentences of preferred lengths, format things differently, etc. And ChatGPT has essentially ruined this and made all of the fun, quirky, and unique aspects of writing disappear, because why wouldn't you run it through AI software to first ensure that it is all correct? Why not confidently better your word choice? Reading large text blobs is never fun and the existence of AI has made it even harder. With this being said, I will now critique how it did.

For starters, this was my prompt.

"In around 450 words, write me a blog post regarding the use of generative AI in digital marketing. Have the tone of a college student who is writing in a business casual manner. Include bullet points and subtopics to make the post easier to read and understand."

As you can see, I wanted to tackle some issues I had in particular.

  • Tone of writing
  • Specifying it is a blog post
  • Making it sound like a college student in the business field
  • Breaking up the blog to not read as boring and break up the chunks

I do not like what it wrote. While it covered almost all of the specs I gave it, it did not understand it as a human would. If I told someone to write this for me and specifically said that I wanted it to be broken up, they would not break it up into equally sized paragraphs. They would include numbered lists, bullet points, bold, underlined text, and quotes just to name a few. While GPT may be able to do this if I extend the prompt I give it, it will never be perfect.

As for the content, it is all there and accurate. But this was no surprise; this is its specialty. But its wording is garbage. No college student let alone really any human is going to write "paradigm shift" in a blog post unless they are incredibly pretentious.

Overall, I can't be mad at what it wrote as it did it in about 1 minute and a majority of the time was me deciding what the prompt would be. I will continue to never use it in this context but if it ever helps people get started writing when they may be stuck, I will continue to be forced to welcome it.

So, how do I see AI being used in digital marketing?

Pretty much exactly what the AI said would be my thoughts. While it will be constantly improved, I don't see it fully replacing anything or being completely automated without human surveilance.
