I guess I got it right.

Today was my last day as Operational Technology Delivery Manager for Trustpower. I return to work next week, same company, different role, new team - I'm the noob again.

I did what managers do and wrote a farewell email to my team thanking them for their efforts and for making my job easy.

I don't normally skite or boast about my achievements, but I want to share this email because I guess this is what it feels like when you get it right...

Copied directly from the email:

"Marty

When you first became the leader of the OT team I have to admit I was a bit anxious about it...

I remember your strong (and sometimes conflicting) opinions on Trustpowers systems and your eagerness to shake up what I thought was a high performing team There is something unsettling about giving the guy that could kill you with his hands, a knife ?

But once I settled down, sat up straight and now look back I am so glad you were up the front clearing the path with that machete

Although working with you at times can be like taking a kid to a candy store… The amount excited of emails, phone calls, or slack messages I have received from you about new tech or cyber vulnerabilities would be enough to make a mother strike a child. But the way that you can take those new subjects turn your learnings into practice and master it in a short amount of time still astounds me.

You not only leave behind you a highly engaged capable and performing bunch of degenerates, but also a lot of cleared pathways and tools you’re leadership created to help us succeed.

You leave very large kung fu shoes to fill none the less we will continue to forge and move forward and succeed.

I would like to personally thank you for helping me to grow in my career and acknowledge the absolute Sh1t tonne of work our team has got through under your leadership

I Know Matt really doesn’t know what he in for …let’s see if he can keep up with New Zealand’s Industry leader in OT Cyber Security ;) .

We all wish you well in your new role and believe you will make a positive difference to our company and industry."

That's quite moving in all truth. Anyway, thanks guys, I'm off towards a new horizon.

All you needed was a leader to believe in your abilities Marty - other than that, it was all you! :)
