"I got hypnotized"
“Nurturing your customers is an excuse for entrepreneurs who are afraid to sell."
- A famous Coach
The other day I bought a “Taho” after, more than a year I think?
??????“Taho” is snack food here in The Philippines.
??????Most, if not all Filipinos are familiar with it.
??????Funny thing is, I wasn’t really looking to buy.
??????I know what it is.
?????What it tastes like.
And I used to buy several servings in the past.
??????Grew up seeing “Manongs”, the peddlers that sell as we used to own a place where they make these.
??????And at some point, I had so much that my stomach refused to take it (not a good experience).
??????So I wasn’t going to buy, didn't feel the need to, at least.
??????But I see this guy every day.
??????When you hear the roaring “Taho!”
??????It's him and you'd know it's 7 or 8 am.
??????He does this every day, almost.
??????Except for Sundays.
??????He has a steady stream of regular customers and kids would come rushing when he’s at his post.
??????He knew what they want, their names, and even their best friends.
??????He’d talk to people that would stop by, order from him, and even the ones that don’t.
??????This guy has a nice personality overall and you can tell by the way he deals with people around him.
??????So, he stopped in front of our house, saw me and said "Kamusta?" (How's it going?).
??????I got hypnotized.
??????I took a mug, pulled out my wallet, and came over for a serving.
??????Have you ever been in the same situation?
??????I just smiled and felt silly for a second.
??????Not that I regret buying and that he's at fault.
??????But because he shows up every day and he's someone I like, know and trust, I bought his stuff though there wasn't a real "need" for it.??????
I wouldn't lie, I enjoyed every chug of that sweet and silky "taho".
??????That's what happens I guess when you just "show up". :-)
??????Most people in the community know him.
??????He bought a house and sent his kids to college through this trade and he's been doing what he does for decades now.
??????And I think there's something here coaches, course creators & consultants can learn from.
??????If you're looking to scale, this could be the most important thing you'd want to do.
??????Be it, in person, on social media, or in your email list.
??????You may be the type of person who'd say:
??????"When I go to a restaurant, a grocery store, or my mechanic, etc I don't need to be nurtured."
??????or
??????"I'm there to give my money for a product or service that I need now! Let's stop pretending we're in business!"
??????But your audience or prospects are not "you".
??????Statistically, out of 100 people you meet,
??????Less than 10% are open to the idea of buying.
??????In fact, only 3% are ready to hand you their money.
??????And the 90%?
Well, they aren’t ready to buy.
??????Most don't know they need what you offer,
??????Are not thinking about it,
??????Don't think they're interested,
??????Or they're not interested at all.
??????And that's where "nurturing" comes in.
??????Everyone has a different buying behavior and many may need to see you or hear from you for some time before they buy.
??????Especially if your using email to have a conversation with your customers.
??????So if, at some point, you feel like:
??????"Nurturing your customers is an excuse for entrepreneurs who are afraid to sell."
??????You may want to think again. :-)
