I Get to Work With Two Great Ladies
I work with two special ladies and before I get into the two special ladies at the company, I will talk about two ladies that I spend time with every single day, my daughter, Bridget, and my wife, Beth. Every single day, they collaborate and talk and share funny things together and have always been supportive of one another, both are amazing people. And it gives me a good reference as to what special people are, especially special ladies. For the most part, I had been a strong supporter of female leadership as the person who really changed my outlook and did great things for my career was somebody at IBM named Martha, who is absolutely the best coach I have ever had. I think about our business now and while coaching has really exploded in the marketplace, often when we give to other people, we sometimes do not practice what we preach. WOW, I learned a lot the last two years!
Sadly, we have all experienced a pandemic, but I can also tell you the pandemic was one of the best things that happened to our company. I share that not from a financial standpoint yet from a cooperation and leadership standpoint, both ladies that I work with have been instrumental in our success. Alyssa, who has been with us for going on four years, started out as a half-time employee and her hours have varied. To say the first couple of years were challenging for both Alyssa and for myself would be an understatement. We have a relationship from coaching volleyball, and certainly a personal friendship & relationship, which made things even tougher at times. The last year, I have never seen somebody grow during an exceedingly difficult time in her skillset, mentality, and her ability to be absolutely one of the best teammates I have ever worked with. I often share with her someday, you need to quit on me, and should start your own agency.
As Alyssa has absolutely captured the creativity of being a great graphic designer and representation of imagery the second special lady is Stephanie. Stephanie was a longtime acquaintance and worked at one of our client's sites, The Milwaukee Brewers. When she became available, I was not looking for someone. I quickly realized her attributes were exactly what we needed. Now in a small company, we do not screen, we probably do not interview as well as we need to, and often we have horror stories of people that we have hired. Stephanie has been absolutely superstar. She has helped our company not only grow and solidify itself, but she absolutely should be the heir apparent to running this company. I often wonder why I have two sets of two special ladies in my life and it hits me what is the commonality. Is it their skillset? Is it their education? No, it is the fact that they are committed women who professionally commit to doing a great job every single day. I often wonder why we do not have more female CEOs. I often wonder why we do not have more female leadership. What I really wonder, and it still amazes me is that we have sexual harassment things going on in the workplace. Even till this day, with everything going on in the world, we need to promote and coach more special ladies in the workplace, not just for them, but for the value of the organization.
