I Get By With a Little Help From My .........

Navigating the corporate world is not for the faint of heart. It requires skill, emotional intelligence, adaptability, patience, tolerance, an innate ability to be objective at all times and in all circumstances and political savviness. (and yes, LOTS of caffeine) To be clear, for those of us who have built our careers within this structure, we have seen the good, the bad, the ugly (sometimes the really ugly) and the neutral.

The Leadership Corner often talks about people being the cornerstone of business and they are, and in my opinion, they always will be. While there is a clear distinction between colleagues and friends, the one constant is that navigating the corporate world is much easier with a trusted confidant. Someone who will tell you when you are making a poor choice, celebrate you when you have a win, be transparent with you at all times, knows what drives you and simply "gets" you.

Interestingly enough, sometimes we identify that person and develop that relationship during our time on a team together, but more often, that relationship develops after one or both of you has left an organization. As the old adage goes, one door closes and another one opens.

Keeping with the theme of people being the cornerstone of business, I encourage you to think about who that person is in your world. Who is that confidant, that colleague-turned-friend, that one (or maybe more) person (s) who just make your life better by helping you see things objectively with a hint of subjectivity? The one who walks you off the ledge when needed and pushes you to be bold and take calculated risks when it's worth it?

The Business world is an awesome one to be in and one that I could not see myself out of. My DNA is business, and yes, my personal identity is closely aligned with my career, and I am proud of that! However, the business world in which I exist is enhanced by a few close, trusted people that make my corporate world go' round.

Tag someone below or comment on that person below! Let them know they matter to you! I will start!

Love this and mine is absolutely Irene Castaneda, CSP she sees my Leadership attributes and Driver for a long term career path in this industry. If it wasn’t for her coaching and guidance my Spring 2024 recruiting transition would have been rough. #Positive Relationships and never burn bridges.
