I Feel the Need...to thank my coaches.

Last weekend I performed online a read-through of a one-woman show I wrote in 2020 called, “I Feel the Need.” The show is an autobiographical journey, sharing the various forms of flight that have been a part of my life. I performed the show for a limited audience of friends and fellow writers and actors, but it occurred to me that I should share the existence of this endeavor with a larger audience because of an important fact.

I would never have written or performed this show if I hadn’t worked with a coach.

Ten years ago, I was going through a divorce and was laid off from a start-up where I’d been employee #7. I felt stuck and unsure of what to do next. I hired a leadership and career coach, Katie Wurtz, who helped me get back in touch with what was important to me in my life. Creativity is one of my values and a prominent component of my life purpose and vision. I began writing and painting, but never made the time to get back to performing until 2019 when I started working with an executive coach, Jenn Bevan, while I was leading a team at Facebook. She helped me reconnect with my love of theater and performance.

Both Katie and Jenn guided my deep exploration of what matters to me in how I live my life. Our work opened up the world of coaching to me and I realized that I, too, wished to support people in their personal and professional growth, beyond the impact I could have as a people manager. I left Facebook and began my own executive coaching and leadership development business.

When live theater is available again, I hope to perform “I Feel the Need” onstage. My dream is that my show will inspire others to realize it’s never too late to pursue projects that matter to you.
