I Fail A Lot (Q1 2022 Update)
I don’t know why I’m still surprised when I fail. I always think I’m going to succeed. Yet, if you compare the things I write down that I will accomplish in a quarter to what I actually achieve, my results are quite disappointing.?
Just this quarter alone, I didn’t hit my earnings target, I didn’t lose the weight I wanted, and I didn’t use an overnight babysitter.?This list can go on.?
Still, somehow, I feel like a winner. I love my life and my accomplishments. I embody the “shoot for the stars, land on the moon” quip.?I don’t focus on failure. I just learn from it and try again.?
What I’m proud of is my consistency with planning and setting my goals. Failure hasn’t deterred me. I know I’m achieving more, earning more, enjoying more, and helping others more because I take the time to plan.?
I am the opposite of the “shoemaker has no shoes” adage. ?My vocation is simply duplicating and sharing what I do for my own family with others that have similar goals and objectives.
Hit reply and share how you approach goal setting and failure.?I am always looking to learn from other’s experiences.

Perhaps it goes without saying, but I don’t accomplish anything alone. ?To increase our effectiveness as a team, we implemented EOS – the “entrepreneurial operating system” – for Freedom Family Office.?Our management team gathered for two long and productive planning days.
One of the great outcomes was setting our sights on helping 1,000 entrepreneurial families become Rich Beyond Money by the end of the decade.?We gained clarity on our vision and values.?We narrowed in on our niche.?We developed quarterly, one year and three-year goals.?
We identified the gaps in our team and added Chel as a Staff Accountant, Bryton as a Client Service Associate and Chloe as a Social Media Manager.?We promoted Kyshia to Client Relationship Manager and need two new people to fill the big shoes she leaves behind (who will start next quarter).
It also became evident we need another seasoned wealth advisor, preferably one with expertise in business succession, M&A and exit planning. Right now I serve as that primary advisor, and we have had at least a dozen new clients that in are in the midst of an eight figure exit.?If you know someone that might fit the bill, I’d welcome an introduction.?I need some help!
We also implemented the CultureWise system to systematically drive our desired culture.?The leader of that organization is an author, speaker and entrepreneur I’ve admired since we first met through Big Breakfast – David Friedman.?I was able to bring him to my EO chapter as a speaker, too, so my peers could learn from his experiences.?I highly recommend his content and company.
On the learning side, I launched a new e-book at www.DecidedToSell.com , presented a webinar on “The 7 Critical Questions Before a Sale” and had the opportunity to share my “Game Changing Tax Strategies” talk with 60 members from my local EO chapter.
On the real estate side, we are under contract to acquire a massive 1,233 unit apartment complex in Birmingham, Alabama which we project will generate a 25% IRR.?We also went under contract to sell a complex we acquired just 18 months ago which will generate a 75% return to our investors in such a short time frame.?Last, we started marketing another asset for sale that we acquired a little over 2 years ago, where investors already received 50% of their money returned, and we have a handful of offers that would generate a 2x total return.?I’m excited to see these three deals close!

Right after returning from the Galapagos, we rang in the New Year with local friends that we’ve known our whole time in Parkland.?Soon after, we met friends that moved away from Parkland at Universal to celebrate Amanda’s birthday.?
I had a sore throat the night before leaving, which ended up getting diagnosed as Covid.?I’m the first and only one to have it in our household – in large part because we have been very cautious.?Thankfully it didn’t impact me more than a cold, and now I feel like a cloud has lifted. ?
Jared had a busy quarter, finishing his soccer season, starting and ending his basketball season and celebrating his 15th birthday – complete with getting his learner’s permit!?We had fun father/son time seeing a Heat game (a great Hanukkah present from a friend) and seeing the USA Men’s Soccer team in the World Cup qualifying match against Panama with Amanda’s dad, too.?It was the best event I’ve attended – so much energy rooting for our country with nearly all the spectators wearing USA gear.

Eden had her 5th grade trip to Kennedy Space Center and also Junior Achievement, where she was a banker.?She has been spending more Saturday nights at the Lucky Horse Sanctuary where she goes to “Riding Club” run by Dr. Blair.?It’s a great atmosphere of rescued animals that run the gamut from cats and bunnies to chickens, pigs and horses. ?Eden still loves dancing, and all her spare time seems to be filled with booty-shaking.?Her brother detests it.
Eden was my little helper with the purchase of The Ark, our new yacht which will soon be available for day charters in Miami.?Eden officially became our Social Content Creator, which means she’s allowed to use TikTok on the boat and she’ll get paid for any of the videos I’m willing to post on our channel – CharterTheArk (website coming soon, too).??Let me know if you would enjoy spending a day on the water and I’ll send you the details.?
Buying a boat has been a roller coaster of emotion.?We have always tried to save at least half our income – which was really hard when we were fresh out of college!?Spending money has never come easy to Amanda or me.?We’ve had to work at it.?Experiences, mainly travel experiences, have always been the one place we happily splurged.?
Having a boat just for me to enjoy feels like an odd expense.?I’m the only family member that really likes to be on the water.?It’s my happy place.?I was sharing with a friend that, especially onboard, I feel a sense of pride around the life I’ve built with Amanda.?We are incredibly grateful because not everyone that plans and executes like we do has the same good fortune.?
Amanda and I also got to have some fun together without the kids.?We snuck in a lot of day dates, although the winter weather kept us away from the beach a few times.?For Valentine’s Day we went to a fancy place courtesy of a friend that “picked my brain” and then sent a generous thank you.?
Amanda and I also got to enjoy an EO event together, since they had outdoor seating for the South Beach Food and Wine Festival at Michael’s Genuine.?The food was delicious and it was nice to see old friends and meet new ones.?
For spring break, Jared wanted to stay home and hang with friends, and the rest of us wanted to travel.?We compromised and spent some time home and some in Grenada, the 63rd country I’ve visited.?
It was kind of a mixed bag.?The villa was beautiful and the island had great beaches, vistas and activities.?The trouble was Eden left with a sniffle (not Covid, we had to be tested), but felt sick a day later.?Eden powered through and did the activities we wanted, then Amanda didn’t feel well before we left.
Since you have to take a Covid test to get back home, Amanda and I were trying to game out what we could do if someone was positive.?Thankfully it was all for naught.
Part of our worry about Covid has led me to increase my Walk and Talks.?I gladly meet people at 7:30 or 8am in or around the area to go for a morning walk while we catch up and reconnect.?It’s been a lot of fun.?If you’re in the area and want to catch up, let me know what Tuesday, Thursday or Friday we can meet up.?If you’re out of town and we’re past due to connect, we can always do a virtual one by phone!
My annual Executioners forum retreat was spent at a ranch in Adairsville, Georgia (where coincidentally we’ll be building a 260-unit apartment complex).?We had fun activities, quintessential highway BBQ, and meaningful conversations.?Participating in my forum is still one of the most valuable things I do.?It’s been 9 years with the same group – although members have filtered out and new ones came in over the years – the rituals and repetition of spending time together have created lasting bonds.
I hope your year is off to a great start, too.
With Love,
Noah
