When I was a kid in high school I made quite a bit of money selling candy bars to other students.
I got started by taking my allowance to the local Piggly Wiggly grocery store and bought as many candy bars as they had.
I'd buy the candy bars in bulk. That would be 12 candy bars to a package.
My biggest problem was I had to make sure I didn't literally eat up my own profit.
Each candy bar cost $.25. I would turn around and sell the candy bars for $.50 each at school.
I was doubling my money every day.
Within a few weeks I was making about $200 a week in candy bar sales.
That’s crazy cash for a 15-year-old kid living at home.
Like all good things, it came to an end.
One day my homeroom teacher asked to see in my backpack.
I had a massive backpack with a few books and lots of candy bars.
He confiscated my candy bars. He told me to pick them up at the end of school and not to bring them back again.
When I went to pick them up he gave me a five dollar bill because he had eaten quite a few of them. So much for any plans I had of taking some of them home.
What's really sad is shortly after this I turned 16 and got a job at the same local Piggly Wiggly where I worked 20 hours a week for $2.75 per hour.
I didn’t need to be a math genius to figure out that selling candy bars was way less work and a whole lot more profit.
Now when it comes to running an online business your success or failure comes down to knowing what's working.
