I don't need much convincing .....
So much hype around the iPhone X … it costs ￡999 well near as dam it ￡1000…. I get that its an incredibly large sum of money but this is nothing new for Apple the first Mac in 1984 cost $2500 - about $8000 in todays money.
The first iPhone would cost us ￡869 when you take into account we had to have on a ￡35 a month O2 contract and that equates to ￡1155 and if you can be bothered the top of the range iPhone has also been around this number if you look at inflation.
Now I like apple products, design function and of course desirability but I also like Samsung products again for there design, flexibility and adaptability. Neither are cheap and will never be so again, but also we have never done so much with a phone or relied on a piece of technology so much in our lifetimes since motor transport.
We all know that there will be flaws with the iPhone X - there will be numerous stories of an evil twin accessing a phone using their face and cleaning out bank accounts and times where just at the keynote it won’t work.
But it will also provide fun, connectivity and a glimpse of the future for us early adopters.
However, the price will always continue to be a sticking point, just as Selfridges was selling a ￡99 ice cream … yes thats correct watch this video -

People will deem the price to be too much or not an issue just with everything in the world and it can make it an extremely exclusive item, this is the downfall.
This is the only downfall with the price, we want tech to be in hands of the many and not the few, yes apple sell a phone at ￡349 now...... but people want to have the edge to edge screen, amazing camera, use facial recognition and the silly but likely addictive AniMoji feature.
I will buy the new iPhone, like many others and they will sell out in hours ......and we all will continue to do so every year as I already have ...... I do consider myself to be lucky enough to be able to do this.
But, I will also try to convince myself its not a lot of money, that I need to keep abreast of new technology and also I am not an Apple Fanboy…… well don’t we all lie to ourselves about somethings'.

5 年Yes: I think about the incredible intelligence, energy and consideration that is invested in things that aren't good for people and think how can we drive that intelligence in a way that creates a reversible reaction world where interaction can itself be part of the drive towards that: so I understand what you mean about the iphone: agree. Why though, isn't the phone, its very materiality not the thing we're not addressing with our tools?? We need completely recyclable (and repurposable) high end tech that is itself connected with education, skills schools, colleges, universities in an informal and accessible way that allows the local to grow, the local to be connected with the big regional, national and international visions. ?Modularitites that are truly localised and granular that transform the forms of the technologies because they're properly inclusive. The problem is that tech has been hijacked by the Silicon Valley Empereror's new clothes school of innovation that by its very nature is elitist and not really innovative. Most Silicon Valley 'companies' are exploitative gig and gang labour cells that talk the big words of innovation but aren't doing anything to stop social and economic exploitation.
