In the world of job hunting, you’re a one-person show. While believing that your search for a new career should be an independent journey - and only looked upon as failure if you had to accept help - but, two heads really are better than one. With a little bit of help from people who know what they're talking about, maybe this time your resume won't get binned straight away…
Let’s address some things we hear often:
- I submitted 100 applications and still no interview. It's easy to feel defeated after submitting so many applications without any responses. However, don't give up just yet. Try to approach the search with a fresh perspective, and keep sending those applications out.?
- I’ve spent 3 months applying and still no results. Three months, huh? That's a lot of cover letters, resumes, and interviews to navigate. Maybe it's time to switch up your strategy and approach the job search from a different angle.?
- I had 3 interviews but they went for someone internal, with better qualifications. It's almost like they were just leading you on, making you think you were a top contender for the job, but in reality, they had already made up their minds about hiring someone internal. If nothing else, at least you got some practice with those interviews.?
- I’m not the kind of person who asks for help. Call it pride or call it stubbornness. But, we all have our moments where we need a lending hand and it's okay to ask for it. It can actually save us time and frustration.?
- When you started to drive, did you just get in a car and head for the freeway? Is that how your kids learned? Many of us think we can go it alone without asking for help or seeking out resources. It's like diving into the deep end without knowing how to swim. Don't be afraid to ask for guidance. And the same goes for your kids learning to drive - just because they've been watching you drive for years doesn't mean they're ready to tackle the open road without proper instruction.?
- If you wanted to improve your golf, what would be the best way? Practice a lot.? Watch YouTube videos. Work with a professional coach who analyzes your performance and helps you improve your game – stroke by stroke? The first approach is only going to get you so far. Want to really step up your game? You gotta go all in and work with a professional coach. Someone who will analyze your every move and help you improve stroke by stroke. It's worth it.?
- You can get a job without help but why make it harder than it needs to be. Who wants to go through unnecessary stress and frustration? It's like trying to climb a mountain without a map or a guide. You might eventually make it to the summit, but wouldn't it be better if you had some assistance along the way? Give yourself a fighting chance and seek out help from others who have been through the process before. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later.
At the end of the day, you can get a job without help, but realistically why make it more difficult than necessary? Asking for help takes courage and humility but it's often worth it in the end. Wanting to do everything on our own is admirable, but many doors open up with guidance from a professional who will give you the advice and information you need that will ultimately lead to success.
