“I don’t know” what a scary phrase and dreaded state for most of us.
“Not knowing” feels so uncomfortable, because?our #nervoussystem puts us in a survival state (fight, flight or freeze). This makes sense: not knowing what can happen, can threaten our survival, so we need to be extra alert.?
In nervous system #regulation, we look at the survival responses of our nervous system and check in if they are what we need in this situation. If not, we look how we can shift out of survival, into a state of safety and ease.
This year, I started wondering if ?running away“ from not knowing (flight response) is really what I need.
Life is full of not knowing. There is a lot of magic in not knowing. A lot of beauty is created from not knowing. Maybe it’s worth to stay with it, instead of fight, flight or freeze it.?
So this year I want to increase my capacity to be with the not knowing. “To learn to love the questions” - like Rilke put it.?

What that looks like? In business: Starting the new year without a strategy meeting nailing down targets and projects. Instead I take time alone and with my team to sit with not being able to answer certain questions yet. Giving us space to explore new questions we don’t have time for usually. To think which questions we want to answer this year. to practice to appreciate our courage to face these questions and uncertainties.?
So far I can say: It feels scary and vulnerable. Yet it also creates moments of deep connection, creativity and potential within our #team which I never thought possible.
What are your thoughts and feelings about this? How does it make you feel to read me share these words? I would love to read from you!
