I don't have time for content ??
Why you should be creating your own Linkedin content - Nick Raeburn thatsocialnerd

I don't have time for content ??

I hear it time and again.

But I bet you have time for sales conversations, conversions and revenue don't you?

Well that's what (good) content does!

Content should be a joy, it should be fun to share new findings with your audience.

Or talk about your experiences.

We forget that every interaction, everything we see and the conversations we have.

Is ALL ripe for content.

It’s easy to produce content.

You just need to start thinking like a creator (easier said than done).

Think about how much knowledge you have stored up inside that head of yours.

Potentially decades of industry experience.

All waiting to be tapped into.

All relevant, useful, valuable information that your audience is dying to hear.

But you don’t have the time or worse you want someone else to create the content for you.

You couldn't be more wrong.

You see all the thing that make you unique.

That make you, YOU.

Are exactly what people want to hear.

When someone else creates content for you they aren't authentically speaking in your voice, they are a facsimile of it.

And I have said it before but it isn't so much about the content itself, but the space that content creates for you to have a conversation with your audience that’s the important part.

There are different kinds of content for this platform.

For the more introverted amongst you I recommend starting with?PLAIN TEXT POSTS, these are easy to produce.

And allow you to start to get to that all important conversation with your potential customer.

You could share -

  • Insider knowledge
  • Thought leadership
  • Valuable insights into the problems you solve for your customers
  • And more humanised (if you're comfortable) content about you as a human being always does well!

To really start to curate your audience you start a?NEWSLETTER?like this one.

Although the current newsletter gold rush has just started with the addition of creator mode I would maybe (if it was me) let it die down a bit before committing.

But think about how it ties into your personal brand and make the content contextual, relevant and timely.

Also don’t forget that articles and newsletters are one of the few things that are indexable by search engines outisde of the platform.

So take advantage of them!

Next up for the braver amongst you is the one of the kings of content, my friend (and yours) and that is?NATIVE VIDEO

Video doesn’t have to be costly or time consuming to post.?

Just pick up you phone, hit record and post. Simple.

Or you could repurpose zoom calls with clients and put up video testimonials (which are gold dust).

Or repurpose a video podcast.?

Or even just upload?the audio from your podcast using an app like?Headliner to get that audio working extra hard for you. The possibilities are endless.

A few quick tips around video are.

  • Invest in a decent quality mic, video is 90% audio and a good mic make all the difference in the world.
  • Use captions, if you're using Apple clips on an iPhone it will do them on the fly.?
  • Otherwise options like Rev?Zubtitle?and Simon Says?are great.
  • Try and use a square (1080x1080) format as it works well across desktop and mobile!

Try and use thumbnails to grab attention and you can create them in Canva (keep them square) and then upload them through your web browser!

If you're really struggling I have a great resource which is here

Once you get comfortable with video you could also add a cover story to your profile and I have a great resource for that here?

And a covers story script template here?

PHOTO AND IMAGE?posts work well for the more visual amongst your audience.

And pictures of YOU do really well, so get out from behind that keyboard.

You can also add slider posts, which are great for conveying info and you can use resources like Canva?to create those.

GIFS are also AWESOME for grabbing attention on the feed, so use them without mercy!

Remember Linkedin is populated by humans and contrary to popular business belief.?

They are known to want to have fun from time to time.

A mixture of all these kinds of content, is brilliant as not all of your audience will resonate with all of it at once.

And by mixing up the cadence your audience will stay warm and fresh.

You need to own your content and it's never been, easier, cheaper or quicker to do that in 2021.

By allowing an agency to control your personal brand and content you’re effectively telling your customers you don’t care enough about you to care enough about them.

It’s lazy and a short term solution. With no long tail strategy.

And when there is a discrepancy between your contents tone of voice and your actual voice in the comments it puts people off.

Be real, be human and win through content and personal brand.?

It’s never been easier to start.

So get your creator cap on!

And LET’S GO!

Content is king and that won't change because it is the only way you inspire and connect with me. If someone DMs me or sends me a connection request, the first thing I look at is their content.

Long round of applause for this edition, Nick. I have not subscribed but to a few newsletters as if I were to accept all invitations, I would not have time left for anything! I subscribed to yours because I am confident you will find interesting content to regularly publish. Hope you'll continue posting on LI, too!
