I don't have time to breathe....

I still remember the story as it was told me, of a burned out professional who seriously meant that taking 2-3 deep breaths from time to time during his day was a Mission Impossible. Really?

How about you?

Back from holiday? Rested, energized, and ready for the fall? Are you filled with inspiration, new ideas, new (yet not implemented) habits? Or, are you already crashing into the hamster wheel forgetting the Zen, energy and the inspiration of summer by the hour??

?? Summer gave ample time for reading, and one of the books that left a mark was "Slow Productivity" from Cal Newport.

Cal advocates for a sustainable and mindful approach to work, emphasizing quality over quantity. The core concept revolves around reducing workplace stress and burnout by shifting away from the relentless pursuit of efficiency.

He proposes practical strategies to cultivate a focused, fulfilling work life:

  1. Prioritize Deep Work: Concentrate on tasks that require undivided attention and contribute significantly to your goals, minimizing shallow or less impactful activities.
  2. Set Realistic Expectations: Adjust workload expectations to prevent overcommitment and unnecessary stress.
  3. Cultivate a Sustainable Work Culture: Encourage practices that promote long-term health and well-being, both mentally and physically.

The book challenges the modern ethos of "more and faster is better," promoting a philosophy that slowing down can lead to more meaningful and productive work.

So how am I implementing this?

Well, first of all, I try! And what I try to do is as follows:

  1. 3 main targets pr week - the important stuff!
  2. Coffee, in the sense of reaching out to 1 pr day for a sit-down
  3. Mind and body - getting some exercise, and some head-calm

In addition I think, and talk, about this as a leader, and with leaders - there are issues here that needs to be addressed, in my opinion.

It's not much, but I think it is enough, at least to keep me grounded and present, and the fall will be the judge of the impact I can make.

What are your thoughts, ideas, or practice?

?????? - I am ready for a chat!
