Why did I write a book?
Why did I write another one?
Why did I refresh the first one?
Why am I finalising another one?
Great questions.?
My genuine answer is, I'm still not sure!
Those of you who know me, know that I do Numbers rather than words!
In all honesty, I've hated every minute of writing the books. Genuinely. It's really tough.
I find it difficult, challenging and very tiring.
Although, once done, it is a nice feeling, and as a big part of my business life is about helping and educating business owners, it fits well. Whilst the books can be bought on Amazon, I give them away and send copies to people as well as providing a free download of Mastering Cash Flow for Business Owners.
Remember, the word "author" is in "authority".
An authority is an expert on a subject, and whilst I don't like to think of myself that way, I can use my books to impart wisdom and knowledge to assist many business owners who have little knowledge on certain subjects that I know well.
So, how did it all start as I'm just a boy from Wishaw and had never met an? author, and indeed many of the people I grew up with struggled to read.
It was never a goal or ambition to write a book, let alone be a multiple book author.
It all started when a good friend? (Jeff in Canada) told me that I needed to write a book about cash as I was always giving great advice about it in various Mastermind groups, and seemed to know it inside out.
I pushed back, but eventually relented. Jeff effectively edited my ramblings for the book and published it for me.
Then on the back of the success of Know Your Numbers I refreshed it giving it a KYN rebrand and update.
Then, Jeff did it again - I thought he was a friend!
"You need to write another book about your Friday afternoon Rocking Chair videos."
No. No. No.
Then in a moment of weakness, alright then, okay!
I had already started the next book on the Know Your Numbers framework (we will release this at the end of summer) so I parked it and we worked on Lessons From the Rocking Chair.
It was released a few weeks ago with lots of help from Jeff, as well as Stephen and Ruth. There's been some great feedback and PR on the back of the release, including being called "the Martin Lewis for small businesses".
That made me smile and feel good, even though it is a bit of a stretch!
I work hard, am very focused and determined.
I get things done.
Relentless is a word often used to describe me.
My strategy for all of the books has been research, build the structure, create a plan and timetable, and then get it done.
My daily LinkedIn posts always finish with "Take action and drive success"?
I took my own advice and did that.
My advice if you are thinking about writing a book is very much the same - just do it.
Whilst I'll never retire from my book earnings, if just one person makes better decisions and gets a better sleep at night as a result of reading my books,? then that's enough for me.
I'd like to finish by thanking everyone who has bought a copy of one of my books, and more importantly has read it and implemented my advice.
And to those who haven't - why not! The next book Know Your Numbers Mastery - Where Would You Be Now if You Knew This When You Set Up Your Business will be released in late summer 2024.

9 个月Congratulations, Craig. Very few people who start books finish them (probably less than 5%). Even relentlessly driven businesspeople fail; often they just can't devote enough time - and, even more importantly, 'mental space'. But you've succeeded - not once, but twice! 'Difficult, challenging and very tiring.' Yes, indeed. And that's just on good days. Congratulations again!
