I didn't learn how to improve my poker at Ted2018 but I did learn this

This year at Ted 2018 I attended Ted Unplugged which is a great way to meet fellow Tedsters who have volunteered to give a 5 minute mini Ted talk. I was intrigued to listen to professional poker player, Liv Boeree, the only woman to have ever held the World Series and European Tour titles at the same time.

So I thought, worth a punt as for sure my poker could do with some help.
Well, what a learnt from Liv wouldn’t necessary help me with the cards, but it was food for thought. She talked about the role of luck and intuition in winning. When we are winning, our egos tend to play down the aspect of luck, preferring to stay in the space of well earned genius. Indeed, she had learnt from getting to the very top in poker that intuition has only a small role to play in success and that big decisions should be left to slow analysis. She also talked of quantification in our everyday lives. Try it for a day. Ban the word ‘probably’ and instead of saying I will probably finish that presentation later, say to yourself, there’s a 60% chance I will finish it and see what happens!

6 年Yes; This is a dominant human trait in the game theory - We win because of our effort and we lose due to external factors (not us!!); I wonder how this is going to be captured in #AI phenomenon raging in the enterprise these days!!
