"I didn't get into business to do that...."

You know what rankles a little bit?
I saw an ad pop up in my newsfeed for photographers (So, someone should check their targeting metrics...just saying!) and the lady followed the "Relate to the customer by sharing a story they will connect with! Then hit them with the up-sell right there in facebook."
She said one sentence that actually made me a pretty annoyed. "I became a photographer to do photography, not marketing!"
Sorry hun...common misconception there and I'm gonna set a couple people straight!
I hear this all the time... "I got into business to paint/fix AC's/bake cookies/_____, not marketing/sales/planning/hiring/managing."
And I'm going to start calling these people out on this stuff.... You're not "in business" at that point.
You just happen to own your job instead of working for someone else.
And even as a job owner, you get a larger percentage of the income, but you have to do more jobs. Including marketing, sales, planning, hiring and managing whatever team you end up with (even if it's a team of contractors and vendors!).
And when you refuse to learn the skills to properly do those jobs, they will always be hard for you, and you'll get subpar results.
Let's be real, if you don't want to put up with doing those parts, go get a job working for someone else and stop complaining.
Otherwise, put the time and effort into learning the skills because while it may take effort to learn the skills, it's a lot more painful to continue failing at it because you are half-assing it and spending way too much time to be failing at it as hard as you are!
