Are you working non-stop to get the work done and still not able to finish it? If yes, then this article is for you. For rest, feel free to read or skip, it doesn't matter.
Like most of the kids I used to hate school studies too. I spent more time thinking of ways to end it sooner so that I could save myself from the pain of studying. Even though no one told me or asked me anything, I was able to break-free from some of the mysterious issues of human behavior without actually knowing what they were. Like whenever I used to set 60 mins as my target time to finish a 120 mins exam, I did extremely well, and every other time I couldn’t finish the paper on time.
In Covid-19 world when work-from-home (WFH) is the new norm, we are doing work 24x7 without realizing this habit is sucking life-force out of us. Here I’ve picked 3 highly relevant human behaviors to help you understand why you might not be able to finish your paper (aka work) on time.
1. Pareto Principle:
80% of the outputs come from 20% of the inputs. Perfection is luxury. Leave room for improvements later. Keep it simple: focus on work which gives more output for less input.

2. Parkinson's law:
Work expands to fill the time available for its completion. Be aware of time at hand vs time required to complete a task. Set shorter internal deadlines for improving productivity.
3. Student Syndrome:
A student starts work on assignment at the last possible moment before the deadline. Schedule work according to priority and when work is meant to be done, finish it as soon as possible. Use slack as a buffer against deadlines.
Everything above is the core of time management. Make sure to start work early, set shorter internal deadlines and put effort on things that have maximum output. Do make sure you talk to the manager before prioritizing important work. Check my article here to read What does a manager want from an employee?
Easier said than done. Started early and it still helps to keep myself on track. Hope this helps you too. Good luck.
