I couldn’t find me! Can you find you? Google ?

I couldn’t find me! Can you find you?  Google takes the easy road!

A colleague suggested I Google my name?  which at first thought felt a little uncomfortable. Why on earth would I want to Google me?  After six decades I had, what I thought, was a pretty good idea of who I am. But boy was I in for a surprise.

Seems my name, Peter Thomas, is not unique. Surprise, surprise - There are loads of us/me/we and we are all over the world and we are musicians (not me of course, I’m tone deaf), actors (who have been involved with Atlanta Wives, no dear not me), panel beaters (I bend them he mend them), announcers and a multitude of other professions.

I’m (reliably) informed, Google knows everything and with changes to social trends we each need to be immediately visible.  So with all this technology, why did Google return all these other sons (whose parents thought it would be a good idea to name them Peter Thomas) appear on the front page ahead of me? and why did one Peter Thomas, appear again and again and again..  we the other Peter Thomas's have been excluded.... oh dear...  you can't fool all the people all the time etc etc.. but seems you can fool or influence Google!

Actually, it turns out, I am unique. Well if I add to Google search, my middle initial Q (Quentin) and look for a Consultant Real Estate Specialist, hey presto, top of the heap.

So where to from here? Sorry that wasn’t simply a rhetorical  question.  I have made a start. I added the Q to my name on LinkedIn, which in turn means close to 5,000 connections are going to receive an update from Linkedin. I’m adding this “post” so possibly that’s another update you may receive.

But the BIG question for me is ‘do I really exist if I’m not on Google’s first search page? catastrophe?  give up or find out how?

What were your search results?  I'm looking forward to hearing what your results were?

Yes, it does appear that if you have a less common name like Ramon (Spanish) Neilson (Anglicised version of the Scandinavian Nielsen) you do not have as much competition. On a Google search I occupied the first 2 pages - didn't realised quite how important I am!!
