I Could Have Been Charged With Murder

Have you ever done something unintentionally? Who hasn’t?
I almost killed someone, and to this day, I feel terribly guilty about it, even though she lived to tell about it. Here’s what happened.
Moving day was a flurry of activity. The movers arrived on time; everything made it into the truck, and a few hours later, we found ourselves putting everything in its place, getting the new office setup and functional.
We’d planned on a single day of dysfunction when we moved Ad Zombies into our new office space, and even though it was a bit disorganized, we were in.
Meanwhile, the building manager sent me an email asking when we wished to begin office cleaning services. Since we knew the place would be as difficult to navigate as a minefield, blindfolded, we asked them to give us two days to settle in first.
The third day came and boxes were not only unpacked, but broken down and neatly stacked near the entrance to our suite. My office was looking great. The shelves were up, pictures were in place, and all the zombiephanalia I’d collected over the past few years was on display. This display included Rob Zombie, the guy above, and Zach Zombie, below.
These brothers from a zombie mother have been part of Ad Zombies for many years and are at home in my office.
Zach appears to have broken through the wall and is always keeping a watchful eye on me. Rob is my bouncer. At 5’11” tall, Rob’s presence is felt by all who enter my cave, including the cleaning person.

In our haste to get settled, I’d failed to notify the building management of the life-sized zombies in my office.
Queue the cleaning person.
While I don’t have footage of the event, the manager shared the story vividly.
The office was dark when the cleaning crew arrived. They turned on the main lighting, but the rest of the rooms had enough light bleeding in that they could start emptying the trash cans. My office, being furthest down the hall, was first. The cleaning person walked in, saw the trash can on the floor, and when she looked up, she saw Rob staring back at her.
She screamed something in Spanish, confirmed by her partner, though she wouldn’t tell me what she said, and ran out of my office, hysterical. Her heart was racing. She thought she was going to die. So, I guess I almost killed her.
The good news is she not only survived but learned to like the quirkiness of the office and continues to clean it every night. I am grateful we didn’t scare her away.
Since then, I’ve gotten to know the cleaning company owners and have started writing email sequences to nurture their business relationships. I can help you write emails for your business too. Emails are a great way to stay connected with your customers and build a relationship beyond the transaction.
