I could get used to this!
Absolutely delighted to be teaching INSEAD alumni again. This time it was the Scale Up Bootcamp at the Abu Dhabi campus - focusing on how to get your startup into a high-growth trajectory.
We explored the various growing pains related to Ideation, Pre-revenue, Commercialisation, Expansion and Exit. Key messages:
- Focus on something where you actually have an 'unfair advantage' over others.
- Know what you want from your venture and don't lose sight of that later.
- Be creative in conserving cash in the early stages - equity is super expensive at this point.
- Don't listen to your customers, they'll only ask for a faster horse.
- Do listen to your customers, their feedback is invaluable!
- Raise money when you DON'T need it, not when you do!
- A successful venture does not make you a success - keep everything in perspective: work, family, friends, community, health body, healthy mind.
Good luck everyone and once again many many thanks to Professor @PaulKewene-Hite for continued guidance and support.
