I cooked up a killer startup idea by chatting to an AI. Don't believe me? Read this!

Coming up with new ideas is hard enough.

Turning those ideas into a compelling pitch is even harder.

Coming up with ways to launch and market ideas... also hard!

So I had a chat with ChatGPT to see if we could work together to come with a great new for a new piece of software. Here's how it went:

Toby: Give me an idea for new SaaS product that helps business improve how they find new customers

ChatGPT: One idea for a new SaaS product that helps businesses improve how they find new customers is a "customer acquisition intelligence" platform. The platform would use machine learning and data analysis to help businesses identify and target potential customers more effectively. It could analyze a variety of data sources, such as social media activity, website analytics, and customer behavior data, to build detailed profiles of ideal customers and predict which prospects are most likely to convert into paying customers. Additionally, the platform could provide businesses with tools and resources to optimize their marketing efforts and improve their overall customer acquisition strategy.

Toby: Could you write me the structure and key messaging for an investor pitch deck for this idea?

ChatGPT: Sure, here is a structure for an investor pitch deck for a "customer acquisition intelligence" platform:

  1. Introduction: Briefly introduce the problem that businesses face when it comes to acquiring new customers and how the platform addresses this problem.
  2. The Market: Show the size of the market opportunity and the trends that are driving demand for a solution like the platform.
  3. The Solution: Highlight the key features and benefits of the platform and how it uses machine learning and data analysis to help businesses identify and target potential customers more effectively.
  4. The Team: Introduce the team and their relevant experience and qualifications.
  5. Traction: Share any existing traction, such as beta customers or pilot partners, and their feedback on the platform.
  6. Business Model: Explain how the platform generates revenue and the potential for growth.
  7. Financials: Provide financial projections, including revenue and growth rate, and indicate how the funds will be used.
  8. Ask: Clearly state the amount of funding being requested and the terms of the investment.

The key messaging for an investor pitch deck for this idea could be:

  1. A large and growing market opportunity for a solution that helps businesses acquire new customers more effectively.
  2. A unique, data-driven solution that uses machine learning and data analysis to predict which prospects are most likely to convert into paying customers.
  3. A strong and experienced team with relevant expertise to execute the vision and bring the solution to market.
  4. Existing traction and positive feedback from beta customers and pilot partners.
  5. A clear and compelling business model with significant potential for growth.
  6. Attractive financial projections and a well-defined plan for how the funds will be used.
  7. A clear ask for funding and an opportunity for investors to be part of a promising solution that will help businesses grow.

Toby: What could the software brand be called?

ChatGPT: The software brand could be called "AcquireIQ" or "Acquire Intelligence" which reflects the main value proposition of the platform, which is to help businesses acquire new customers intelligently by using data and machine learning. The name conveys the idea of an intelligent, data-driven solution that helps businesses make smarter decisions when it comes to acquiring new customers. It's memorable, easy to pronounce and can be associated with the main function of the product.

Toby: Who should the target market for this software be?

The target market for this "customer acquisition intelligence" platform could be small to medium-sized businesses, specifically B2B and B2C companies across various industries such as e-commerce, retail, SaaS, healthcare, finance and marketing, who are looking to grow their customer base and improve their customer acquisition strategies. This software can be used by businesses of all sizes to identify and target potential customers more effectively and optimize their marketing efforts, but it would be particularly beneficial for small to medium-sized businesses that may not have the resources or expertise to effectively analyze and make use of customer data on their own.

Toby: What should the pricing for this software be?

ChatGPT: The pricing for the "customer acquisition intelligence" platform can be based on the value it provides to the customers, the size of the customer (based on the number of employees or revenue) and the number of features used.

One possible pricing strategy would be to offer a tiered pricing model based on the size of the business and the level of service provided. For example, a basic package could be offered at a lower price point for small businesses with fewer employees or lower revenue, while a premium package could be offered at a higher price point for larger businesses with more employees or higher revenue. Another strategy can be to offer a freemium model where the customers can access some of the features for free and pay to access advanced features.

Another approach could be to charge customers based on the number of users or the amount of data they need to analyze. This would allow businesses to pay only for what they need and scale up as their business grows.

The pricing should be competitive in the market and should be tested in the market with the help of a pricing strategy that would help the business to understand the customer's willingness to pay.

It's important to note that the pricing should be flexible and reviewed periodically, taking into account the changes in the market and feedback from customers.

Toby: Would $99 per month be a suitable fee for small business to pay to access this software?

ChatGPT: It's possible that $99 per month could be a suitable fee for small businesses to access the "customer acquisition intelligence" software, but it would depend on several factors such as the features included in the package and the value it provides to the customer.

$99 per month is on the lower end of the pricing spectrum for SaaS products, and it would be important to ensure that the features and value provided by the software are in line with the pricing. For example, if the software provides a comprehensive set of features and a high level of customer support, it may be reasonable to charge $99 per month. However, if the software is more limited in its features or does not provide as much value to the customer, it may be difficult to justify charging $99 per month.

It's also important to consider the competition, and compare the pricing and features of similar products in the market to make sure the pricing is competitive.

It's also important to note that small businesses are price sensitive and may not have large budgets to spend on software, So it's important to offer a pricing model that's flexible and accessible to small businesses. A freemium model or a lower price point for basic package might be more suitable for small businesses.

Toby: What would be a slightly more controversial and standout way of talk about how this product works?

ChatGPT: Here's an idea for a slightly more controversial and standout way of talking about how the "customer acquisition intelligence" platform works:

"Are you tired of guessing which marketing strategies will work for your business? With AcquireIQ, you can kiss goodbye to the old ways of acquiring customers - cold calling, door-to-door sales, and spray-and-pray advertising. AcquireIQ uses cutting-edge machine learning and data analysis to predict which prospects are most likely to convert into paying customers. We call it the 'Death of traditional marketing', AcquireIQ is the future of customer acquisition and it's here now!"

This approach highlights the problem of traditional marketing methods being ineffective and how AcquireIQ is a revolutionary solution that uses advanced technology to help businesses acquire new customers more effectively. It also emphasizes the "Death of traditional marketing" which is a catchy phrase that could grab the attention of the audience, but it also implies that traditional methods are outdated and not useful anymore, which could be seen as controversial by some. It's important to test this approach with the target audience and see if it resonates with them.

Toby: Could you turn this into a snappy headline?

ChatGPT: "Say Goodbye to Guessing: AcquireIQ ushers in the 'Death of traditional marketing' with cutting-edge customer acquisition technology"

Toby: Love it.

ChatGPT: I'm glad you like it! Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

This is interesting because whilst I know enough about AI to know it's just a talking box, I've actually found ChatGPT quite useful in drawing out some of the gaps and weak points in my pitch for a new SaaS product I've been working on for a while (sorry - it's not ready for the public eye quite yet... you'll have to watch this space!) It's really just parroting back the average of human statements on any given question, but amongst that are the real gems (and some of the "dumb questions") that you can easily overlook when you've been really close to a really good idea for a long time! (Also I used it to write a quite decent article on why giant hollow cabbages make great home-made space vehicles, which insightfully suggested they could absorb radiation, provide ablative heat shielding and provide food for the crew, whilst being low cost and having a low environmental impact to build with... that's NOT my big idea BTW ??)
