I CAN’T emphasize enough.

I CAN’T emphasize enough.

It’s July (already) and we’re already in the second half of 2024. I’m still building and learning, but there is progress.

How do I know? Because I’m checking against the goals, I’ve set up earlier in the year.

I realized that there are some “underrated” tools that are SO important – that I can’t emphasize their importance enough.

Thought I’d put them here, perhaps you find them useful on your journey through the rest of year.

?

#1 Goal setting: I start the year with “broad” goals – but clear. Example – For my business, the goal is to increase revenue by X% or Client engagement by Y%.

That sets the tone, and month of month, I set clearer KPIs on how to make that happen.

My goals are always challenging, but never crippling.

In case you’re wondering – if you haven’t done that in January, you can still do it now, don’t wait another six months for this.

#2 Exploration: Going out of your standard to-do and exploring something different. I’ve set a goal to do that at least once a month this year – this could be personal or professional.

What have I discovered? That there are a bunch of other things that I enjoy doing (for work) and some “hidden” talents. To be clear, I also realized that there are other things that I totally do not like – and would not really pursue them further.

But at least, I know I’m not “missing out” on anything.

#3 Breaks: I know you’ll read this and think it’s painfully simple, and it is. But it is super underrated. If you’re constantly on a roller coaster, you’ll burn out. Or you could lose bits of your creativity – and you won’t even notice. Which is equally as sad imo.

Breaks should be religiously scheduled in (in my view) your calendar. If your breaks are gym time, sleep, walks or just sitting in silence. They’re worth every invested minute.

Because they matter, because you matter.

That’s it – 2024 is all about keeping things simple (for me). Hope they help and hope you stay productive and energized.

P.S LinkedIn has been such an incredible place to me to hear and learn from you, so let me know if you have some things that you find underrated – that could us all level up.

"My goals are always challenging, but never crippling."?? Great reminder to set ambitious goals, but not to the point where they become demotivating or unattainable. Appreciate the thoughtful insights Noorhan Al-Zan, CFA, MBA!

Dear Noorhan Al Zan, you have initiated a perfect reminder for a mid-year review. One who intends to be on track needs to review periodically. Secondly the significance of a good break has been highly under rated. Thanks for the post.

100% Breaks are sometimes viewed as a waste of time, although they actually boost energy levels.
