"I can think, I can wait, I can fast!"
Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

"I can think, I can wait, I can fast!"

In today's rapidly transforming post-pandemic world, it is important for every individual to embrace the role of a futurist and recognize the opportunities that await us in our own journeys. This fast-paced era surrounding us has aptly been referred to as the Hyper-VUCA world (which stands for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous). It's important to have specific qualities and the abilities that help us predict the future accurately, navigate through it successfully, and tackle the challenges that lie ahead.

Our lives will be fundamentally different in the days ahead..

In order to remain relevant, I am reminded of the timeless wisdom of Hermann Hesse's words from his philosophical novel, "Siddhartha," written over a century ago. The story was set in ancient India during the time of Gautama Buddha, narrates the transformative journey of a privileged young man who forsakes material wealth and comfort in search of spiritual enlightenment and wisdom. Through his many experiences and having different lifestyles during this journey as Siddhartha- siddha (the perfected one) + artha (that which is desired) he finally learns the essence of the qualities and abilities he possesses.

?

This final belief summarized as, "I can think, I can wait, I can fast," still hold remarkable significance, amidst the whirlwind of the Hyper-VUCA world, filled with unpredictability, turbulence, and formidable challenges that seem to rush towards us at lightning speed. They serve as a reminder to balance our actions with thoughtful contemplation, exercise patience in the face of uncertainty, and embrace the virtues of discipline and simplicity. Through these principles, we can navigate the challenges of our time and embark on a path of personal growth and profound understanding.

?

"I can think" reminds us to engage in introspection and thoughtful contemplation. By fostering a reflective mindset, we gain clarity and insight, allowing us to make informed decisions in the face of uncertainty.

To make good decisions and gain valuable insights, it's important to have reliable guidelines and meaningful questions that you can use for yourself and others.

?

"I can wait" encourages patience and understanding that not everything can be rushed or immediate. It teaches us the value of perseverance, trusting that the right path will unfold at the right time, and embracing the process rather than seeking instant gratification.

To succeed, it's crucial to have the ability to plan longer term, think ahead, and make wise choices about how you allocate your resources.

?

"I can fast" symbolizes discipline and the willingness to let go of unnecessary attachments for long-term growth. Fasting here metaphorically represents the ability to forego thoughts that may hinder progress, whether they are about physical possessions, outdated ideas, or unproductive habits.

To overcome challenges and face adversity, it's essential to develop remarkable resilience and have a strong ability to endure difficulties.

?

In essence, "I can think, I can wait, I can fast" emphasizes the importance of thoughtful deliberation, patience, and adaptability as key values to practice. These give us the inner strength and ability to thrive in a Hyper-VUCA world.
