I can learn from books, scriptures, internet, ChatGPT etc. What is the need for a Guru?

Panchanan Sarkar, an erudite professor at a renowned university, once met Ananta Nath, a devotee of Sree Sree Thakur Anukulchandra. Ananta, who had completed only high school, initiated a discussion on the significance of having a Guru in life during their conversation. Interrupting him, Panchanan Sarkar argued, "Given that most individuals are intelligent and there exist countless scriptures and spiritual texts outlining ways to lead an exemplary life, what then necessitates the presence of a Guru?"

Ananta Natha stated, "Sir, you are a learned man. I am not certain I can answer your question, but may I seek clarification on a few matters?" "Certainly," Panchanan Sarkar responded. Ananta Nath inquired, "Are the students who attend your university sufficiently intelligent?" "Indeed, most students who enroll at our university are intelligent," Sarkar affirmed. Ananta asked further, "Has your university prescribed books for the students?" "Yes, each course has a syllabus, and books are prescribed to students accordingly," Sarkar replied. Nath probed, "Sir, then I am eager to understand what role you play at the university. Why are you needed there?" Sarkar exclaimed, "What do you mean? I teach at the university." "But why is teaching necessary? The students are intelligent, and the university has provided them with books. Can't they just read the books and learn the subjects?" Ananta Nath questioned. Panchanan Sarkar contended, "Well, some subjects are complex. Students cannot grasp everything by reading books alone. They require teachers to elucidate complex topics, respond to queries, and assist them in understanding and applying their knowledge." Ananta Nath remarked, "To comprehend a complex subject, one needs a teacher. But sir, what about life? Is it so straightforward and trivial that you don't need a teacher to grasp the subtleties of life and navigate its complexities?"

Panchanan Sarkar was taken aback by the question. He had not anticipated such a persuasive argument on the need for a Guru in life from a man of modest education. Internally, he was starting to acknowledge the significance of a Guru. A few days after this enlightening dialogue, Panchan Sarkar embraced Sree Sree Thakur Anukulchandra as his spiritual guide. While colleges and universities boast extensive libraries brimming with books, they also employ professors, acknowledging that books alone are insufficient. Learning is incomplete without the teachers.

Mangoes can be artificially ripened using calcium carbide, yet they will not taste as delightful as those that naturally ripen on the trees. Likewise, reading books may impart a wealth of knowledge but not wisdom. To attain wisdom, one must seek the guidance of a Guru in life.

Life is not straight forward. It is complex with multiple hairpin curves. Guru is must. Surya Prakash Mohapatra Thanks for sharing the article.

Brilliant way to highlight the need of a Guru. Just because internet provides the information at finger tips, we erroneously start believing that Guru is no longer needed much to our disadvantage.
