I’ve had that drummed in my head since I was in Ireland some 11 years ago. My biz coach at the time was dissecting the soon to be sales process with a cocky 26 year old (yours truly) and we were discussing where I wanted the results to be in 3 month’s time. Naturally I figured it’d be some ridiculous figure that would take a feat of production never seen before for the ‘Knock Out Drawers’ we were sending into mainland Europe at the time.
Fast forward 3 months and you guessed it…. I was about halfway to my lofty target. My activity wasn’t where it needed to be, my discipline was inconsistent and I hadn’t factored in what the production capability was for these products. Needless to say it was pretty sobering. I utilised the quarterly session properly and set realistic goals based off achievable activity.
The next 3 months I worked my ass off, focused on doing DAILY numbers only that fed into that 3 month target, only allowing myself to work on the pre-approved activities for the required timelines. I hit growth targets in a recession, using skype and being part of a company that delivered what our clients wanted.
It was a tough time, recession anywhere is tough, but recession in Ireland was pretty crazy. I mean it rained nearly every day along with the grey-ness!
But I also saw some people hear AND see the same message – I CAN ACCEPT FAILING, BUT I CAN’T ACCEPT NOT TRYING.… They planned, BUT they didn’t actively work that plan. Pretty sad yes, but I feel that some people don’t want to win or achieve their goals. I mean wining can be a scary thing.
Coming back to the present day and taking everything into account with COVID-19, there’s a lot of people who have no choice but to close their doors thanks to government intervention and industry shutdown, however there still are many industries that have to be open yet they aren’t trying. They aren’t trying for their employees, themselves and their families. Now that’s tough.
If you are putting in 100% and doing everything imaginable – congratulations! We’re all in this together and you’ll come out stronger when things go back to some formal of normal.
If you are making excuses and allowing others to suffer through your laziness – wake up! You have a responsibility to society to put in at this very moment of time. Here’s 2.2 things I/we need you to do –
1. Call a friend and check in.. If you know someone who has lost their job ASK how you can help.
2. Contact all your customers and let them know you are still trading and see how you can help them
2.1 Talk to your staff and re-assure them that YOU are going to find a way to win in this climate so they aren’t one of the thousands of people cueing outside of centrelink.
2.2 Do what you say you’re going to do……

4 年And being thankful always for your team is so important. Some days when you're down in the dumps or it all feels too big - when someone calls you to check in or say hey, it can change your outlook immensely. I got that call today, and it reminds me that I should make that call to someone else tomorrow. Surround yourself with people who bring you energy, and that you can give energy to. That's how we're all going to come through this.
