I call Bulls#@!
I'm watching you...
I'm going to make a "The Modern Enterprise" podcast about this subject but wanted to get some feedback first from my audience. 1st connection comments only! I'm currently tracking a few suspicious connections who've gained unprecedented traction on LinkedIn despite average run of the mill content.
How common is it to have 150 comments and 15k followers but non of the comments are ever from a first connection? Hmmm? Got me researching how easy it is to buy followers, likes and comments on Linkedin.
What is social proof?
Many influencers on LinkedIn are leveraging the concept of social proof to promote subscriptions or sell expertise. Social proof, in this context, is the influence a person gains when others perceive them as popular or knowledgeable. This perception can drive others to engage with the influencer, often leading to opportunities and sales. But here's the catch: not all social proof is created equally—or ethically.

The Marketplace of Influence
A concerning trend has emerged where bad actors purchase not only followers but also likes, comments, and even entire networks. This creates a fa?ade of influence and engagement that is not grounded in genuine professional interaction. For instance, you might notice posts with hundreds of comments, none of which come from first-degree connections. This discrepancy is a red flag that the engagement may not be authentic.
The Call for Vigilance
As professionals, it is essential to approach LinkedIn with a critical eye:
Conclusion
I'll be the first to admit even as a purest I've used ChatGPT to help me create content and I think automation is key to proliferating your your message and becoming more efficient. That said, in this new AI driven digital age, the integrity of our work, transparency and our professional network is more important than ever. We must be vigilant and discerning to ensure that the voices we trust and the influences we allow are both genuine and deserving of our time. Let's commit to fostering a LinkedIn community where authenticity is valued over mere appearances.

7 个月Here’s the thing Stephen Joseph… LinkedIn appears not to give a ?? They are even awarding it by giving Top Voice blue badges to known cheaters. In the case of Pods D A N I E L H. has done significant data investigations and has caught and posted the evidence and even called out individuals and groups… “I don’t use pods” they would say “My account got hacked” they would say…. Guilty is what I say ?? Then these cheaters would complain about being called out, threaten lawsuits, complain to LinkedIn. What did LinkedIn do? Shadow banned the whistle blower! This is a BIG problem for LinkedIn and they need to get their head out of the sand.

7 个月Absolutely, between paid engagement, pod groups, etc. take a close look at “influencer” comments and interactions. Sometimes those second connection comments come from reshares getting your content to eyes outside your network, but if the post has zero reshares and tons of second connection comments... yeah... Fake News!
