I Built An Interactive Flowchart To Decide Where To Eat

Earlier in the year, I had too much time on my hands, so I sketched out an interactive flowchart to decide where to eat. It's modeled on the logic I use to recommend restaurants to other people, and, as always, very opinionated. I then worked with a web developer in Spain who built the actual thing and brought it to life for me: Yaidier Perez of Wire Nomads.

Do you want Chinese or not?

I'd love to design this for mobile but so far this is just a fun diversion and I don't have the money to hire someone to turn it into an H5 page. If you have the time or money and want to volunteer, contact me!

How Does It Work?

Start on the left and hover over the white tiles, which will prompt you for a choice. By following the choices, you’ll eventually wind up on the right-hand side of the flowchart, at a restaurant suggestion. There are more than 100. Click the restaurant and it will open a tab to its Dianping page for address and phone number information. Easy!

The recommendations come from me and several other friends and F&B people I consulted for specific restaurants. The selection is completely biased towards my tastes, and the clunky interface is intentional. It’s meant to be a purely logical approach to something very subjective. I hope to update the selection of restaurant every few months to add new places. We’ll see! Have fun!
